Non- compliant students are individual students who refuse or fail to adhere and follow school instructions offered by the school authority or rules in school. Non- compliant students may often fail to accomplish school chores like assignments and activities assigned to them. The students defy rules and authority every time they ought to follow school rules. The students may defy their teachers and authority when the matter surfaces. They openly defy the rules offered and seem never apologetic. Some individuals may pleasantly, charmingly and at times apologetic when the issue comes to their attention. They plead with the authority and ask the authority for forgiveness and promise to stick to school rules. Surprisingly, they defy the same set rules and repeat defying the set authority.
As a teacher, I have to know the distinct difference between students who fail to comply to set rules and students who refuse to comply with the set rules and authority of the school. Students who fail to comply to set authorities have several explanations. They at times do not understand the given instructions. The students who fail to comply to set rules may not understand the instruction, therefore, punishing them for that may be unfair. I ought to listen to their explanation before making my decision. Nevertheless, I distinguished between the students who fail and students who refuse to adhere to school rules. Students who fail to follow the school rules at times are not aware of the set rules and authority in the school. Some are slow to comply with school rules. This is not a justification for them to fail to adhere and follow set rules.
Alternatively, students who refuse to comply to set rules and regulations involve individuals who willfully ignore set rules. I came to learn that students who refuse to comply to set standards have this in their behavior. I considered it as a behavioral problem because the individuals constantly repeated the same mistakes of non- compliance. Teachers tend to increase control over the students in order to increase and make them compliant to rules and authority. Teaching professions has enlightened me of defiant students and given me insights on the consequences of similar actions.
Teaching is the most rewarding career because my main aim in teaching is to help students get educational knowledge and achieve their careers. Helping students learn and achieve knowledge as much as possible is always the pride of every teacher. We all know that every student learn differently. Some students are quick to learn and need minimal supervision while others learn slowly and need maximum supervision. Teaching can be fun and at the same time hectic. We all expect these changes in teaching, and we have to know and handle every student in the classroom. We have to ensure that they perform and achieve their ambitions.
Teachers experience difficult times when they handle non- compliance students. Students not engaging in physical education raise eyebrows. Some students have genuine reasons for not participating in the physical curriculum while others openly defy authority by openly refuse to participate in the physical education. Students’ defiance is demoralizing, and at times makes teachers question their career choices. Thanks to the best training teachers, go through, we have skills to handle and be patient with the students. The students are unwilling to take part in classes and they become defiant to teachers when approached about the problem.
I came to realize that the students refusing to adhere to school rules might not solely rely on the authority or the students. Some students defy the set rules because they do not want to achieve their missions or some individuals have different missions other than achieving school goals. The students’ backgrounds also influence their behavior of defiance. They defy school rules because of difficult social issues at their home. The teachers solve the issue of non- compliance by involving students in their curriculum. The teachers take time to talk and motivate the students on the importance of compliance and mission oriented. It takes dedication, patience and hard work to influence the non- compliance students change and adopt compliancy, but the best part is that they change and have missions and goals in their lives.
