Diversity makes sense in business by promoting success and growth of business in the contemporary business environment. Modern businesses have embarked on changing their business culture to a more inclusive environment where they employ people from different backgrounds to promote diversity. One of the reasons why diversity makes business sense is its ability to promote inclusion programs in an organization. Inclusion programs give the business an opportunity to find new customers and markets, maintain a high brand reputation, and improve products and services. For example, organizations today are focusing on hiring diverse employees and establishing workplace inclusion programs because of the diversity in the workforce and high rate of globalization. Employing people from different cultural backgrounds, genders, ages, and religion creates a diversified workplace environment that invites customers from all backgrounds because of inclusion (Mims, 2013).
Second, diversity makes business sense especially when the organization employs people from various backgrounds by unlocking talents among employees. The organization enjoys a truly represented workforce where every employee works comfortably and with the common aim of gaining positively from the organization. The organization where employers promote a more diverse environment reaps more benefits associated with hiring professionals and skilled staff with the ability to understand customer needs because leading to more productivity. Moreover, promoting diversity in the workforce leads to higher employee retention rates and lower costs of recruiting new staff.
Some businesses have tried to promote diversity and achieved excellent results. ING U.S. has been promoting diversity in the workplace for the last one decade, and the organization has experienced significant changes in its operations. The organization makes diversity a common happening in the supply chain system and human capital, which has seen the company record professional growth and gain global recognition.
