Diversity is the ability to have people of different cultures, languages or even countries of origin live harmoniously in one place. This means that people from different backgrounds get together to foster a common goal. Diversity is important in ensuring that different and diverse opinions, perspectives and ideas come together and this reinforces the ability to come up with unique ideas and solutions to unique problems.
There are a number of problems that face diversity in the world. This is because of the human nature for unwillingness to embrace others of a different creed and background and also communication barriers. These are some of the reasons that hinder the prowess of diversity which need to be tackled in order for diversity to thrive. Discrimination and negative attitudes and behavior are common hindrances to diversity. They weigh down the progress of the people in the world.
Communication is one of the major factors that determines the success (or failure, thereof) of diversity. This is because the people have different languages and therefore understanding each other becomes a problem. It calls for learning of other languages which may prove tedious and hence a discouragement to communication. This is the reason that unity may not be achieved due to communication problem. People find it hard to understand each other. There is discrimination in the world whereby other people feel they are superior to others. This attitude therefore discourages other cultures from interacting with each other. This refusal therefore affects diversity by limiting interactions between people of different cultures, races and languages.
There is a difference in behavior and attitudes of the people. It means that some practices may be considered not applicable to other cultures. This difference therefore means that people of different cultures cannot mingle and it leads to a barrier in diversity. It is important to focus on tolerance in order to achieve diversity in the world.
