One could say that employers are becoming more and more diverse today. They are ensuring that they have a talented and diverse workforce that can bring forth equally diverse ideas in order for the company to progress and achieve the objectives that were set in the first place. Employers are doing so, and several discoveries were made that support this statement.
The first discovery is found in the website of the Scientific American journal. The article states that being around a diverse group of people makes them think smarter, thus making them very intelligent and even more industrious. Their studies have found that diversity in fact enhances creativity and promotes innovation, and leads to new discoveries always. This is because a diverse group of people brings to table various ideas, opinions and perspectives (Philips, 2014).
The second can be found in a report of the Center for American Progress. Its report states that there around 155,163,000 people in the US labor force now. About a third of these are made up of a combination of Hispanics, African-American and non-Hispanic White, and Asian. This means that the diversity proportion in the labor force of the country is bound to increase as the population of the country become more and more diverse. Also, women today make up about half of the labor force, this is a great increase from 1950 when women composed only 29.6% of the labor force (Center for American Progress, 2016).
Finally, large corporate institutions are also aiming for a diverse workforce. Google, for instance, has altered its recruitment strategies in order to source talent from new schools that are known to have more diverse populations. In fact, in 2015, Google hired 20% of its new recruits from these different schools (Google, 2016).
