In today’s society, divorce is becoming a norm than a vice, with many marriages ending up in divorce. Have we ever wondered why people divorce? And do they take their children into consideration before the divorce? Many people are getting a divorce for a number of reasons, and one thing they never put in mind is the effect of divorce on them and their children. Why do people take vows if they do not intend to live up to the vow? Divorce has adverse effects both on the parents and their children in the future. Most children from divorce families have problems in the future, for instance, lack of parental guidance, which might lead to behavioral, psychological, and academic problems. In addition, parents can develop health risks after divorce. People get divorce because they have their problems; it can be anything and if they have children, it gets even worse.
There are many reasons why people opt for divorce in the society today. One of the reasons why people divorce is marital infidelity. Marital infidelity causes an irreparable harm to the spouse, and many of them opt for a divorce instead of mending their marriage. When one or both parents indulge in an extra-marital affair, the harm caused is always irreparable, and the marriage ends in a divorce. Today, there are many reported cases of marital infidelity which has led to a number of divorce cases in the world today (Clarke-Stewart, 2007). Therefore, parents should be ready to keep their vows and remain faithful to each other in order to avoid divorce.
Another reason that can lead to a divorce is financial strains. Financial strains are one significant reason that brings conflicts in most families and later on leads to divorce. Financial issues can be brought about when one partner is unemployed, or a difference in financial positions. Financial constraints can cause unending issues in a marriage because, the couple fails to understand each other’s position and in the end, they opt for a divorce (Clarke-Stewart, 2007). In the case of unemployment of one partner, the employed partner always feels inferior or is mistreated by the working partner and this ruins their marriage. The intimidation of one or both parents due to unequal financial positions can lead to a divorce. Therefore, financial constrains are a possible cause of divorce for married partners. Lack of communication between parents is another cause of divorce. In any marriage or relationship, effective communication is the key, and if the line of communication between the couples fails, the marriage can end up in a divorce. Married couples should be able to communicate and understand each other, or else it will be difficult to resolve issues in their marriage which can later on lead to divorce. Therefore, divorce can be caused by infidelity, financial constrains, and lack of communication between a husband and wife, nonetheless, both parents can avoid all these and make their marriage work and have a happy family.
Divorce is bad because it alienates the child form one or both parents, and this has detrimental effects to their development. In addition, divorce is bad because it produces psychological and physical effects to both the parents and children, since they are separated, yet they were used to staying together as a family. Furthermore, weakens families and the relationship between children and their parents. Therefore, divorce is a bad thing that should be eliminated completely because it damages the society, and this can only be done by parents.
Divorce can have bad effects on both the parents and the children. The most affected because of divorce are the children because; they fail to get parental love and guidance from both parents. As a result, they end up exhibiting aggressive, nonstandard, disobedient and whining behaviors in the future (Paul, 2000). In addition, their normal life is affected, their studies, and most of them end up with a low self-esteem, therefore, and parents should put their children’s interest and future into consideration, other than only thinking of their feelings.
Divorce has adverse effects on the parents. For instance, parents develop health issues due to emotional suffering after the divorce, because their daily life changes drastically. Divorce affects parents physically, and emotionally which can in turn lead to the development of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, as well as insomnia, and peptic ulcers. If children are in the picture, it becomes difficult for one parent to raise the children alone due to additional responsibilities and financial strains. Another harmful effect of divorce is the stress that accompanies it. Both the parents and children are prone to stress after a divorce. Many children suffer psychologically
In conclusion, divorce is a trending issue in the world today. There are many causes and effects of divorce from marital infidelity, financial constraints, and lack of communication. Divorce has a number of effects to the parents and children for instance; parents can end up suffering emotionally, and having difficulties raising children as a single parent (Bernardi and Radl, 2014). On children, divorce can cause, emotional, physically and psychological issues in their lives. Divorce is a bad act that separates families as well as causing them emotional strains.
Therefore, divorce is a big decision that can ruin a married couple’s life, together with their children. Therefore, parents should think one more time before making this big decision in their life. Both children and parents are affected by the effects of divorce; therefore, parents should think rationally and put their children’s interests at heart, before ending their marriage in a divorce.
