Discrimination
Discrimination is key factors leading to increased strife in the workplace. Discrimination can take various forms namely age, religious, gender and ethnic. The changing demographics of the employees is the key cause of the discrimination in the workplace in the company. There are various ways in which the front-line supervisors. First, there is a great need for the supervisors to have a good understanding of the applicable antidiscrimination laws. The management needs to provide all the employees with the business related antidiscrimination laws. A Proper understanding of the laws will enhance compliance of the laws by the front-line supervisors thus able to curb such behavior in the future. In fact, it is important for us to come up with our antidiscrimination policy.
On the other hand, labor force diversity is another demographic change thus leads to increased workplace strife. The labor force diversity affects women’s participation, ethnic and religious diversity. It is worth noting that some of these changes lead to chores in the workplace. For instance, many men are ever adamant about letting women take senior positions. A conflict arises when women with merit do not receive a promotion and men with lower qualifications are promoted. Thus, as the front-line managers of the company, there is a great need to develop act ethically to avoid discriminating works as a way of reducing the increased conflicts in the workplace (Griswold, 2002).
Recent Trends
The world environment is ever changing, and thus, there is a need for the management and the employees to consider the same change in their undertaking. As front-line managers, there is a need to focus on the different populations making up the employees as important stakeholders of the company. The following are some of the areas affected by the changing demographics. Family structures are changing every day leading to the development of single parent families. Besides, there have been increased household chores affecting the wellbeing of the families. It is important for the front-line managers to have a clear understanding of their employees’ family structures. As a result, this will assist them to guide and advise them positively thus reducing conflicts in the workplace.
Health and stress issues are another key change that encourages workplace conflicts. As the supervisors of the company, it is important to understand that the demographic changes have led to health and stress related issues among the world people. The issues are predominant in the workplace and play a great role in encouraging work-related problems. Stress among the employees contributes very much towards chores in the workplace. As the supervisors of this company, we need to develop knowledge and skills on how to solve stress issues in our company. It is crucial for the management to sit down and develop a stress policy to help the managers guide the subordinates in solving stress. It is a good way of helping the company in reducing workplace conflicts (Schermerhorn, 2005).
Legislation covering the demographic changes
The legislation is ever changing thus requiring the management to adopt best practices that support work diversity thus curbing workplace. Since the demographics are changing, I feel that it is vital for the regulatory bodies to come up with other regulations that govern the changing world trends. This is crucial for the management adopt new regulations that foster success in resolving workplace.
Customs and Values of each group
Cultural practices play a vital role in the organization in influencing workplace relationships. As the front line managers, we need to have a good basis for the effects of cultural practices on organizational success. In fact, we should be able to learn how to comply with the cultural provisions of where our company is operating. Besides, we should also need to consider the differences in cultures of our workforce. Employees come from different cultures, and so are their practices. The differences in cultures have a great impact on how the employees relate in the workplace. As a matter of fact, many employees and managers enter into a conflict in the workplace because of failure to respect the customs and values of the different cultures. Therefore, we need to accept that we come from different cultures and act accordingly.
Sensitivity to differing values and customs
Cultural diversity within our company contributes much towards the increased chores in the workplace. The main contributor of the conflicts is the lack of sensitivity to cultural differences. As frontline managers of the company, it is important to have a cultural sense when handling employees from different cultures the enhanced sensibility on the customs and values of employees can help in reducing conflicts among the employees.
Legislation Affecting supervisor regulations
Our management is guided by rules and regulations that tie managers to ensure compliance as one way of reducing chores in the workplace. It is worth noting that we as manager there is a great need to focus on complying with the provisions guiding our actions to reduce work-related conflicts. The employees look upon you frontline managers as the role models and thus you should adhere to the provisions so as to develop outstanding workplace diversity (Chen, 2002).
