If I am to be given the chance to personally speak to the next president with regards to the Drone (or T-Tip) Policy, the first thing I will do is to clarify questions. The first question is who is the actual target of the policy? It is important for the president to address this concern because as mentioned in the policy, it is intended for all Al Qaeda forces and its associated forces. If the policy is intended to eradicate terrorism, should not it extend to all terrorist groups? I will inform the president that there must be a deeper and more stringent U.S Intelligence in order to identify even small terrorist groups. Terrorists, regardless of their size are overall threats to society. For example, the Islamic State (ISIS) started as a small group but they grew and are now spreading terrors across the globe (The New York Times 1). The next question that I would like to clarify with the president is, what is his working definition of imminent threat? According to Bhojani p. 1 that one of the guidelines provided by the policy is that in order to use the lethal force, the target group must be an imminent threat to the United States (Bhojani 1). Several critics of the working definition of imminent threats mentioned that the president has yet to provide more critical criteria in order to consider a person or group as threats.
In order to address these inquiries, I would suggest to the president to first secure more intelligence reports on the actual number of the possible threats. It must expand not only in the U.S and hot spot areas but also across the globe (The Guardian 1). Eradicating terrorism must start even at the budding stage of terrorist groups. It is important to clear the bad air regarding these issues and concerns because these has affected how the world looks at the US in terms of health, security and business opportunity.
