Sulfur dioxide is considered one of the most harmful contaminant present in our environment today. It not only pollutes the land, but also pollutes water and air. The main reason for its contamination is the acidic nature it possesses. When sulfur dioxide combines with the surrounding water, it forms Sulfuric acid, which damages the soil, and hence affecting the plants which grow in this soil. On the other hand, Organic pollutants such as hydrocarbons are not very harmful because there are no acidic components in it. These pollutants decompose naturally and give of water, which causes no harm to land, water or the environment.
According to my understanding, sustainability is a very wide term which generally means to adopt ways in which the minimum raw material from the earth can be used. The reason is that we are all aware of the fact that humans have exploited the planet and there are not much natural resources left. In these conditions, people are adopting sustainability and focusing on using fewer raw materials so that more can be saved for the future. The relationship of consumerism and suitability goes a long way and in fact, it would not be wrong if we say that consumerism is inversely proportional to sustainability. The reason sustainability allows people to use fewer products and make use of the old ones by recycling or repairing. On the other hand, consumerism is more aligned towards buying new products and getting rid of the old ones, hence producing a lot of waste and using a lot of raw material for producing the new ones. As technology is evolving rapidly, new products are entering the market and consumers are eager to buy the latest product as soon as it enters the market. This is making the corporations richer and so they do not focus much on saving the environment.
