Introduction
What I find inspiring about Boggs is her life right from the beginning. Grace Lee Boggs was an activist, whose life was dedicated to writing wrongs. She dedicated her life to leadership in civil rights, labor, and Black power movements. Boggs was born in the year 1915 at Rhode Island. Her parents were Chinese immigrants. Boggs father’s expansion in business made her move to New York. During her stay in the New York, she experienced the racism that her fellow Chinese Americans were exposed to. This motivated her to come up with ways to curb the situation. Boggs studied philosophy and graduated from Barnard College in the year 1935. After winning a scholarship in Bryn Mawr, she received her Ph.D. in the year 1940. After her studies, Boggs failed to get a job because she was a woman and a minority (Hay). The lack of job propelled her to become social justice activist. This paper will focus and discuss the various aspects of Grace Lee Boggs life.
Boggs Marriage
In the year 1953, Grace moved to Detroit, where she was married to James Boggs. Her husband James Boggs was part of her team. He was also a militant black trade unionist, who was working at the local Chrysler-Jefferson car plant. What is shocking about their honeymoon in Alabama is the fact that they had to sleep in their car because Southern motels did not accept to mixed-race couples. In my view, I find this situation heartbreaking. Hence, this situation made the couple to become active in the fight against racism and to opt for re-civilizing the society. The situation they faced in Alabama made the couple create support networks to focus on each other and to move onto community gardens and greenhouses, community repair shops, community recycling projects, community day care networks, and community mediation centers (Hay).
Other Aspects of Boggs Life
In 1961, due to reluctance in the American whites to civil rights movement, it made Mr. and Mrs. Boggs to transform and marginalize outsiders such as black people. This movement propelled them to be agents of change in the society. Boggs fight against racism made her gain recognition and respect from influential leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X.
Grace Lee Boggs motivates me due to her being a concerned and revolutionary humanist. Boggs believed that every person had a role to play not only in the community but also in transforming the world. Hence, Boggs serves as a constant reminder of justice and humanity, which pose as a challenge to the human race. People should try their best to create a better world. Another main thing about Boggs that inspire the human race is her undying fight against humanity (Hay).
