1. Christopher Columbus was a villain to the new world as his discovery brought colonization and the natives were forced to move from their lands within a decade. When Columbus reached America, he killed, enslaved and raped several innocent natives. Over a period of time, Columbus’s discovery of America became the doom of Native Americans and brought death and despair. Columbus was even arrested when the Spanish monarchs learned about his mistreatment of natives. Overall, without Columbus and his discovery of the new world, the natives would have been in a better position.
2. When colonists started to settle the new world, they needed labour to work on their farms. Initially, they used indentured servants who were poor white men from Europe, but over time they learned that they could purchase slaves from African rulers and trade guns. The advantage of African slaves over indentured servants was clear as indentured servants were free after a few years, but slaves worked for colonists all their lives and any children born of slaves were automatically owned by slaveholders. Also, Africans were enslaved as African rulers were involved in a slave trade race with other rulers as Europeans used to give guns and ammunition in exchange. The ruler with the most guns and ammunition was feared and the desire of African rulers to to attain more guns made it easier to find African slaves over slaves from other parts of the world.
3. The Puritans are closer to modern Christianity as they believed that humanity is hopelessly sinful, Quakers have a different understanding. Also, the puritans used to emphasize on sexual repression and materialism, whereas Quakers have much more moderate understanding of materialism and sexual repression. Puritans also believed it the Christian concepts of communion and baptism, while Quakers had different understanding of their religion. Puritans believed in establishing Christian state, which is firmly the state American has become, whereas Quakers are moderate.
4. Religion has a crucial role to play in uniting the country as respect for Christianity and hatred for Islamic jihad has increased. Especially in the present world, as terror attacks increase and conservative thoughts become increasingly against other religions. Fight against increasing national, student and personal debt and a weak health care and social security system is uniting the Millennials as they could face the negative consequences of present mistakes by authorities and the government.
5 The most important reason for the Continental Army wining the Revolutionary War was the sheer size of their army, as it outnumbered the British forces. In addition, the geographical size of colonies ensured British troops failed to cover all colonies and lost out. Also, failure of the British to take advantage of loyalists of the British forces also helped the Continental Army. Also, intervention from Spain, Netherlands and above all France also helped the Continental Army to win the war.
6. There are many ways Thomas Jefferson’s term as the President of the United States of America can be successful and a failure. In some way he was a great President, as he managed to defend the original and true principles of the American Constitution and the civil and economic liberties for which the American Revolution was fought. But, he failed as the President in terms of leading his country to a historic path. Therefore, he was successful and unsuccessful in many ways as the President.
7. By the 1830s and 1840s, the climate started to change with several outspoken and bold women championed the diverse social reforms in capital punishment, alcohol, prostitution, war, prisons, and above all slavery. These changes took place as many opinionated women started to rise in the society and they started to influence other women to facilitate change. Some of these women were Angelina and Sarah Grimke, Harriet Wilson, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.
