The government of Texas helps its residents through the following ways; by building and maintaining roads, through the creation of recreational facilities, by building airports within the county, the construction and operation of jails, in commission of the judicial system, storing and maintaining municipal records, through collection of taxes, through registering voters, through issuing of voter registration and transfers, they conduct and ensure peaceful elections, they offer health as well as communal services to the less privileged population of the district, also the local government has a fundamental role in economic development of their area.
How the Houston Community College serves its residents
It acts as the link connecting Houston residents and government bodies at the central, the state and the local levels. Its purpose is to assist in developing and advancing the Houston Community College legislative plan in partnership with the college’s chancellor, campus, residents and key stake holders. The local government is also working directly with the Houston Community College law makers and staff to assist in promoting excellent higher education so as to respond to the students' personal needs and the Houston community at large.
How the local government handled the Houston flooding problem and its victims
There were school systems in Houston area counties that were severely impacted by floods, the city Mayor, Turner, created ‘The Greater Houston Storm Relief Fund’, to get relief donations to help the flood victims. The funds were used to aid storm and flood victims as well as relief organization in Harris, FortBerd and Montgomery counties.
The state representative from my area is Representative Jason Isaac; the U.S State representative from my area is Congressman Michael T. McCaul and my senator is Senator John Cornyn. It is important to know my state senator, state representative and U.S state representative because they represent the grievances of the state residents to the national government, and they also act as the voice and the face of the areas they represent (Agranoff, Robert, and Michael 16).
Importance of Voting
Voting is important to both the American political system and the people who participate in it i.e. the voters.
Voting is important because, through it you have an influential force on public course of actions and government.
Voting is beneficial to those who participate and is linked with a lot of positive communal, health and societal factors.
There will be no criminal case against the student who shot me because it would be difficult and impossible for the prosecutor to show that the student intentionally fired the weapon aiming to hurt someone, according to Campus Carry Laws in Houston, one cannot commit an unlawful discharge of a weapon if they fire it accidentally (Bellesiles 13).
I think allowing citizens to carry fire arms have its advantages (to the gun holder) and disadvantages (to the people around the gun holders). I believe a person should have the right to defend themselves but the Texas gun laws are somewhat unsafe. The state of Texas has loose gun laws with several gun owners, and still despite this it is easy to be charged with a crime. It is okay for eligible citizens (students included) to provide their own self protection against criminal activities but allowing gun trotting students in a learning environment is a bit off; it limits the scope learning and leads to a low education value. As it is, Universities have had to steer clear of sensitive topics and hot button issues that may offend gun-trotting students. I’m a licensed gun holder, as much every licensed gun holder has the right to defend themselves against criminals; I believe there needs to be a thorough vetting and investigation before someone is issued with a fire arm, the procedures for gun acquisition need to be tougher.
