Effectiveness of the Management
Ineffective Practices
The organization is reliant on debt to finance its operations- overreliance on debt financing could cause challenges for the organization such as stifle growth and limit future cash flow. Since most of the operations are financed by debt in cases of failure to pay the debtors the organization is exposed to property repossession which could have a devastating effect on patient outcome.
EMR system- there was lack of proper integration of the EMR system. Some of the inpatient notes were not included in the EMR system and a separate system was used to enter physician orders (Porter, Huckman & Friese, 2008). This could lead to confusion in the operations which could adversely affect patient outcome.
Effective Practices
Separate compensation structure- each department had its own compensation strategy for the physicians. Since several qualities differentiate one employee from another such as experience and expertise this payment system is effective for a healthcare organization.
Co-locating practices- by having the cardiovascular radiology, cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and cardiology in one location the management was able to efficiently utilize the facilities as well as enable cross-training among the staff members.
Recommendations
360 degree of feedback- this will help the leaders identify their strengths and weaknesses. This involves getting feedback from all levels of management which can then be used to understand the perception of the employees which is critical to a project’s success.
Focus on improving communication- ensure that future projects are designed in such a way that the center of focus is on improving the outcome of the patients and the interaction between the nurses and the physicians (Lindsay & Evans, 2012).
Pilot testing and training- in order to determine whether a project will be success it is critical that all the stakeholders are engaged and involved in the decision making process. This could be by way of training or education. This way the likelihood that a project will succeed is significantly high.
