Gentry, Curt, The Last Days of the Late, Great State of California (1977)
The publication year of this book was back in 1968 by G.P Putnam’s Sons and is mostly talks about the history of California.
The subject matter of this book is the history of the state of California right from the early years of the 1960s (Gentry 17). In particular, it talks about both political and economic progress of the Californian people. In addition, the book gives us detailed information about the earthquake that has negatively affected the country at the period just before the writing of this book. Another common subject present in the novel is the concept of the North, South and the central value (Lawrence & Jeff 67). The author clearly outlines the position and role played by these three regions in the development of the history of the Californian people. Additionally, it is worth noting that the book contains detailed information on the importance of the state of California in ensuring successful developments in other countries across the entire United States (Gentry 66). The book also gives a detailed account of the 1966 governor’s election in the state of California, which was in the year 1966 (DeBow & John 37). Moreover, the book draws instances of massive campaign periods and a stiff competition between the two main aspirants Pat Brown and Ronald Reagan.
In addition, the reason behind the choice of this particular book is the fact that the book is very interesting and lively owing to the fact it is more of a real story than fiction. This book details information concerning the very real and physical state of California .As a result, it will be necessary to recommend to any person wishing to know much about the state of California. The basic concept of the author that is most interesting is that he chose to narrate the history from the perception of a third person. The subject matter was also interesting because it involves solid historical scenarios easily traceable to the current state of California. The time or rather period of writing this book, was another interesting matter about this particular book since the activities were still fresh in the writer’s mind. Therefore, it was appropriate and educative to read the story detailed in this particular book mainly because of its promotional ability to uplift the state of California.
Furthermore, the author of this book was born in Lamar, Colorado in the United States of America but later migrated to the state of California where he settled down. The author has been directly responsible for the writing of some known books. The books include though not limited to the Helter Skelter, The Man and the Secrets, and The Last Days of the Late, Great State of California. He has been an award winner on several occasions and consequently co-authored some books with other authors including the Vincent Bugliosi. The author’s relationship with the state of California is that he was part of this great community. Gentry Curt lived in San Francisco, California and participated in some activities going on in this country including being involved in the social and cultural promotion of the Californian people. The author relates to the state of California in that he was a legal citizen of this country.
In conclusion, it is clear that this book details accurate information about the history of California and the progress the country has made since then. The book showed the main instances of the history of California as well the efforts of its citizens in bringing about the success of the nation. The author of the book is a globally recognized individual with some award-winning titles and consequently conversant with the culture of the Californians.
