One of the most common types of cancer that occurs in males is prostate cancer. This cancer has no treatment and has caused many deaths in the world. But since there is advancement of medical technology, there are survivors of Prostate cancer. Around 2 million men population in US are survivors of Prostate cancer ("Prostate Cancer").
Basically prostrate is a small nutshell shape gland present in males that is solely responsible for the production of seminal fluid and not only it produces it also has a vital role in the nourishment and transportation of Sperms. Sperms are male reproductive cells. Prostate cancer initially becomes as a small cancer limited to only prostate gland, but in a matter of time this cancer can metastasize to different places. Usually this cancer stays in the gland harmless and do not need much attention or treatment, but is some cases it may aggravate to risk level.
Usually prostate cancer does not have specific sign or symptoms in beginning, but in more advanced condition it may cause some symptoms, such as; erectile dysfunction, painful urination, poor stream of urine, tenderness in the pelvic region, blood in semen.
The treatment has not yet been discovered because one main reason is doctors are unable to find the reason behind the onset of this cancer. According to a simple theory, it is believed that the dividing cells in prostate become abnormal and this occurs due to mutation in the gene. This mutation results in rapid and uncontrolled division of cells causing prostate cancer. The new cells tend to accumulate in the prostrate and become a tumor.
The only treatment that is given depends on the onset and duration of prostate cancer. Men acute onset shall not need much treatment they have harmless cancer. But if the cancer is progressing towards different areas of body, then surgical removal of the prostrate or radiotherapy should be done.
I choose this topic because it is one of the leading diseases and it is causing infertility in many males. This is a serious issue and shall need a global attention in few upcoming years.
