Philosophy
The “Protect Familia” is a social service organization that intends to reduce and eradicate the practice of domestic violence in the global society gradually. As an organization, we believe that the domestic violence has several root causes, which need to address individually. Out systematic framework is based on three essential theories of social work namely empowerment theory, feminist theory, and Object Relations Theory. Inspiring with the philosophy of the “Domestic Violence Prevention Center”, we also believe that a domestic violence is an outcome of structural inequality, destructive upbringing of a child, feminine discrimination, and lack of constructive interaction between a couple (DVPC, 2016). This framework is developed to treat each client with utmost respect, attention, care, and justified equality. Our social enhancement conducts believes the following:
Domestic violence is unjustified be all means
The unbalanced structure of a society equip men with extraordinary supremacy over women, which leads to domestic violence
An individual, both men and women, should take accountability of unethical conducts
Domestic violence is not a private affair and considered as a critical concern of an entire community
The protection of children and the victim, regardless the gender, is a primary concern for Protect Familia
Mission
Protect Familia missions to assist the victim of domestic violence and children through an economical, educational, psychological, and transitional means. The agency is available to entertain the client by restoring the self-sufficiency and self-confidence.
Objectives
The organization aims to educate the society towards the domestic violence and its effects on the upcoming generations. As result, we would initiate our conducts by appearing on morning shows namely “Good Morning America”, “Morning Express with Robin Meade”, and “America’s Newsroom” in a respective order. Our core objective is to discourage the practice of domestic violence by understanding, evaluating, and addressing the causes and effects from the perspectives of both genders. Initially, our organization will conduct interviews of at least 50 families targeted by domestic violence. Our purpose of conducting the interview is to address the community with concrete evidence, which has a tendency to reduce the practice gradually. Further, we aim to fulfill the emotional needs of children that belong to distorted family backgrounds. We will conduct ten additional interviews of such children in order to aware the families regarding the outcomes. Precisely, Protect Familia aims to eliminate the cycle of domestic violence that is responsible for destroying generations.
Effects of Domestic Violence – Evidence
According to Newcomer (2013), domestic violence is a common community problem on a global scale. Primarily, this issue is raised when a partner wants to take supreme control and domination over a spouse. Domestic violence is done through sexual, emotional, and/or physical abuse due to interactional or individual factors (Goldsmith, 2016). According to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC, 2013), approximately two women encounter fatalities due to domestic violence and still believe that some tendency of abuse is a part of relationship norm. As evidence, Hannah Foster became a victim of physical abuse by her partner and died, which is a result of calling off the relationship (BBC, 2013). However, women are not the only targets of domestic violence. According to Shaw (2016), approximately 60 men suffered death in the England and Wales as result of domestic violence. Unfortunately, numerous communities such as Australians were educated that the gender inequality is a sole cause of domestic violence (Alcorn, 2016). However, we will address the causes while discussing instituted theories in the framework.
Agreeing with the view point of Hill (2015), the situation is becoming critical for both genders and upcoming generations systematically. As a social service organization, we consider this issue as a significant challenge for entire community. Based on the quantitative evidence discussed, Protect Familia will attain their objectives of eliminating the social curse, which carries forward the effects globally.
Instituted Theories in the Framework
Empowerment Theory
An empowerment theory in a domestic violence provides the encouragement to the families of a victim for gaining control over the abusive situation. Mostly, family members of a victim are unaware of the abusive treatment that is encountered routinely. It was found that the structural design of our society does not offer transparency to the victim and family members (D’Enbeau & Kunkel, 2013). Hence, the Protect Familia will educate the victims regarding their rights in individual decision-making and involve the family members and relatives in order to protect them from psychological chronic harms and emotional unbalances. The core purpose of involving the family member is to provide an emotional shield and support to the victim and children.
Feminist Theory
The feminist theory focuses on the examination of gender-oriented factors that become target of domestic violence. It must be notified that the empowerment theory is protecting the rights of men, while the feminist theory focuses on the prevention and protection of women solely. According to Haralambos & Holborn (2014), the role of women in the society is suppressed and ebbs through abusive domination by men. Hence, Protect Familia aims to protect the roles and self-confidence on women by focusing them separately. Dixon (2014) identified that female as children experience disturbances in sexual preferences, self-confidence, and relationship sustainability. In this context, our organization would prevent the children through intense childcare and early education in order to preserve the social sustainability in longer run.
Object Relations Theory
This theory focuses on erasing the disturb images from an individual at early stage of childhood, which addresses to the domestic violence in this context (Somerstein, 2016). The purpose of instituting this theory is to provide a sole protection to the children that witness domestic abuse and probable to develop a negative image of socialization and communal rationalization. Protect Familia will assist these children by providing exposure towards the positivity of marriages and relationships. Rather teaching them about domestic violence and strengthening the perception, we would focus on maintaining a significant balance in education. The education will focus on developing relationship between the self and objects (perceived) to institute constructive adult behavior (Dalal, 2011).
Target Groups, Geographic Coverage & Role of Government
According to the statistics shared by Barkhorn (2013), marriages in the USA takes place at the age of 16. Hence, Protect Familia will focus on audience from 16 years and above in context to protection and related support to prevent the issue. However, our organization will spread education and psychological assistance from the age of adolescent. According to Radenkovic (2015), 11 states in the USA have the highest and frequent cases of domestic violence. Hence, our organization will initiate the community services in the following states:
Missouri
Arizona
Kentucky
Texas
Rhode Island
Idaho
Wisconsin
Vermont
Maine
New Mexico
Alaska
Our organization expects a sincere contribution from the government and related regulatory to support with funding, interventions, public reach, and media appearances.
Social Service Interventions and Core Service Activities
With a strong government support, our organization will provide the following interventions by collaborating with the public and private regulated agencies in order to protect the victims:
Protect Famila will collaborate with agencies and services specified in Table 1, which intends to secure a victim, children, and family from social, physical, and mental destructions. Our organization will provide protection and assistance to children based on Objects Relations Theory by deploying child protection experts. Further, the spouses will be provided with education related to domestic violence and effects on children/family. The Family Support Campaign will focus on solving root causes that result in domestic violence. In worst cases, our organization will provide attorneys and adequate medical attention without any charges to avoid fatalities or related physical harms.
Innovative Aspects
According to Aigner, Raymond & Smidt (2002), interactions are essential elements for social relationships. Unlike most social service agencies, Protect Familia will focus on solving the differences between couples through social interactions before approaching for worse measures. Most agencies tend to involve law enforcements to apply criminal charges on an individual that practice domestic violence. However, we will involve law enforcers to monitor the change in behavioral conducts after the institution of healthy interactions and mutual settlements among spouses. The innovative feature in our service is to empower the community and audience constructively. As specified by Toomey (2011), Protect Familia will incorporate the target groups as ‘Rescuer’. We will focus on solving the social concern, which is domestic violence, by joining a family rather separating them legally.
Reaching Techniques in Rural Areas and Addressing Needs
In order to reach the rural areas of the USA, Protect Familia will collaborate with the entities that operate successfully in the region. It is important to penetrate and educate the people with strong credibility. Hence, our organization gains credible organizations having the ability to address and represent our service and objectives. In order to evaluate the needs of target groups in rural areas, our organization will conduct a longitudinal survey and respond to the results with utmost attention. Our major focus will be instituted on the survivors of domestic violence in the regions, which will help in developing an adequate and accurate service delivery (Allen, Larsen, Trotter & Sullivan, 2013). Protect Familia will address anger and hopelessness as primary needs to fulfill since Ladwith & Margaret (2005) claimed them as an affirmed consequence among the victims or survivors.
Performance Measurements & Conclusion
Performance of the community activities will be judged by the compliance between outcomes and mission statement/objectives of Protect Familia. The minimal compliance distinctions will define the excellence in service delivery. As community servers, we believe that understanding the perceptions with core intentions of community developments is a potential solution for domestic violence (Pawar & Cox, 2010). Our objective is to promote gender and social equality along with relationship sustainability. Our intentions make the organization innovative in the communal service industry.
