Professional Interview/Profile Paper
Each person must choose the profession that best suits his or her natural abilities and inclinations. If a person gives all the power to his or her favorite work, all the energy, all the knowledge then this business will run better, the returns will be greater and he will find joy in his work. There are many professions, the main thing is not to be mistaken in their choice and dedicate this profession all his life. Everyone has their own interests, their favorite things, someone has talent, and someone capable of quickly and easily learn. Now there is a large choice of professions to choose, in my opinion, it is not so simple. I love to read a lot and write something interesting, to express my opinions and argue about anything and maybe this is why I began to think about the profession of a journalist.
Being a journalist is not as easy as may seem at first glance. All the time journalists devote to work. They should be aware of all the events, look for a lot of new and interesting. It is not only a meeting with famous people, but meeting with participants of inter-ethnic conflicts, with witnesses of unusual phenomena and with victims of natural disasters. The journalist is one of the first, who brings reliable information about events occurring in the world to readers (Diderot, 2015).
That’s why I would like to tell you about a man, whose name is Jack Steinbeck, 32 years old. He is a journalist at hot spots of the Newspaper "New Era". He is 10 years in this profession and 5 years in this organization. He has a Master degree of specialty "Journalism".He said that they have the status of civilians, being in the hot spot, and thus are protected only as long as civilians remain. If a man wants to get a job without experience, he can be a freelance correspondent. So he will be able to express himself and get published. To experienced journalist to find a job is quite simple. It's enough to give the employer a good portfolio (Robinson, 2011).
He said that the preparation of documents, which the journalist takes with him into the zone an emergency situation, is an essential part of his preparation for performing editorial task. And the document certifies the identity of defines the legal status of the journalist, and therefore can be life-saving in certain situations. But he also noted the list of documents to bring in hot spot do not have, as they can complicate the work journalist:- any photos where the journalist was shot with the gun in his hand;- detailed maps, on which are plotted points of dislocation of military garrisons and formations;- lists of combatants, the photos of leaders the opposing sides;- graphics of communications with the media.
As you can imagine it is fraught with unpleasant consequences. Also, the reporter should not divide the conflicting parties into "good" and "bad" to not to simplify the situation, not to fall into the trap of their own feelings and not become the object of manipulation by the authorities. Ignoring this rule can lead to violation the reliability and integrity of the picture. Journalists working in a war zone, forced to comply with certain rules of lighting of struggle, the main participants of which are policy. Serious problems with access to information can occur due to concealment of facts by the authorities, advocacy politicians and nongovernmental figures, as well as because of direct threats to the life of journalists. As Jake notes that much more important to the journalist in the performance of their official duties are remained healthy and the more - alive. That is, the salvation of journalists in dangerous missions should not be the work of only journalists. He believes that the state, public organizations simply must do everything in their power to such an important functional part of modern society, as journalism, came from the list of hazardous occupations. He does not like that there is no support from the state. As you know journalism is a dangerous profession, as it is full of risks every day. In life, Jake was a lot of risky situations, but for him the most memorable one is when he went on a hot spot in Syria where forcibly wanted to take away all the removed footage and threatened. But fortunately they managed to escape from them and hide.
Change of principles of work, increasing competition and responsibility forced his colleagues to be in constant tension, regularly subjected to stress and as a result may become destructive reasons of professional deformations. In his opinion one of these strains is the inability to be sincere with them and to form deep lasting relationships with other people. He believes that through journalism you can get rid of shyness and become more socially adaptive. Sometimes extreme conditions of journalistic work lead to undesirable consequences for the psycho-physical condition of the individual. Because of the critical life, traumatic events among journalists post-traumatic stress disorder can develop. Those who choose this profession have to overcome the base, it would seem that the instinct of self-preservation. His colleagues sometimes because of the professional responsibilities and risks become witnesses or even participants in extreme events.
He identified the following difficulties that journalists face in the process.1. A high degree of social responsibility.2. A high degree of psychological stress.3. Danger to health and life.4. A high degree of risk.5. Frequent business trips.6. High pace of work.7. A big working time.8. The difficulty of working with sources of information.9. Creative challenges when creating texts.10. Difficulties in communicating with people in the process of gathering information.11. The difficulties of communication in the creative editorial staff.12. Difficulties in defending independence, the expression in the publications of its own position, different from the position of the owners or founders of on information.13. The complexity of accounting for and expressing interests of the audience, peculiarities of its perception of the mass media.
But despite all this he likes his profession because he does what he likes, which is very interesting and full of adventure. In military journalism professional ethics play a special role because of the seriousness of the topic and the subsequent impact of published material on mass consciousness. The career of a journalist is to increase the amount of work. In printed publications – is getting their own headings, columns, or pages, in television – the allocation of copyright transfer (Robinson, 2011).
As he said sometimes they have to work in hot spots; indirectly responsible for the popularization of the view that all journalists are the representatives of the yellow press. Each profession needs to learn. The journalist is an unusual work, where much depends on the inclinations. To learn this profession makes sense, if there is a humanitarian mindset. To study in the University at the faculty of journalism, to attend trainings, courses, or simply to extract information from public sources, written by established journalists - everyone chooses their own path. Importantly, it has to lead to goals.
Jack said to be successful in profession of a journalist, you need to be responsible and not be afraid, because it is unknown where and from whom it will be necessary to interview tomorrow. And young people, who wish to become journalists, he advised to read much, because, as he said, information is a weapon.
