The Armenian Museum of Fresno was established in 2003, and the well-known museum showcases the contributions of Armenians and Armenian-American artists. I was fortunate to visit the museum and noted how the museums celebrate the rich culture of the Armenian artists (Armenian Museum of Fresno 2016). The Museum undertakes several activities and hosts regular exhibitions of artist such as Hovik Khochinian, Boghos Boghossian, Rafayel Atoyan, and much more. The museum was huge, and there was so much to explore and see.
I became particularly interested in the work of an artist Marina Mamyan, who is a member of the Artists Union of Armenia (Marina Mamyan 2016). I liked her work “Autumn Improvisations” and was drawn by the gorgeous display of warm colors. The artwork is from her new collection and presents work in mixed media. The artist combines printing and graphic arts to display the harmony of nature. The daring color palette overlaid the different variations of shape and forms found in nature. One can see repeated patterns and styles of the intricate vein works of leaves in black that are imposed on parches of colors in reds, browns, yellows, and oranges. Clearly, the artist carries a unique style of tapestry and shows her control over the hues and shades of colors. The varied, rich colors tones create a look of harmony on the canvas. The black veins make a nice contrast on the canvas filled with warm colors of autumn and give make it more interesting. It is as if those autumn leaves have left the trees and filled the background with their vibrant colors. There is no shadows or light here, and this is what brings the artwork in close proximity of the viewer. I spent much time looking at the artwork, absorbing those intricate patterns and lines that were repeated.
