Introduction
The paper has been prepared after analysing the video from YouTube. The video about the paper is based on a popular series known as UnderCover Boss ("Undercover Boss US Season 5 Episode 9", 2016). This is a set; wherein in each episode, a high-ranking profile from any organisation in the United States of America disguises himself as a commoner and goes to work undercover in the lower tiers of the organisation. This process helps them to have a proper understanding of their business and the operations of the business. This also helped the higher ups in the organisation to understand the working conditions in which their employees were working and the problems that they were facing while operating the business at the ground level.
For the purpose of this research paper, we shall be focussing on the Second Season of the series. To be specific the research paper shall be based on the Episode number 9 of the series, wherein the organisation chosen is Subway, one of the leading food retail stores in the entire United States of America.
In the Episode no. 9 of the UnderCover Boss, we have portrayed the role of a store manager and their functions in an organisation and the role of the Chief Development Officer in an organisation ("Undercover Boss US Season 5 Episode 9", 2016). The first role that shall be discussed herein is the role of the Chief Development Officer. The CDO, for Subway, is responsible for the development of the various business plans for the organisation. The individual is also responsible for the development of new products for the organisation (Striffler, 2012). The development of the new products helps the organisation in attracting the customers with a wide array of delicacies. They also have the responsibility of developing plans for the expansion of the organisation in the various locations all over the United States as well as over the entire globe.
While being undercover, the CDO of Subway had visited four of their retail outlet stores; wherein he had worked under four different Store Managers. During his period of stay in each retail store, he had gained invaluable experience in working as a sandwich artist, a customer management agent, a chef and a delivery boy. HE gained invaluable knowledge pertaining to the art of making subway sandwiches in a short period of time. He has close one-n-one interactions with all the store managers (Ashurst, 2012). From the store managers, he gained knowledge how to improve on the delicacies that are offered by the organisation. The knowledge about servicing the customers with a smile can make them feel at home in the store. The knowledge of how to expand their business can help in improving the community.
Job Description
As already mentioned hereinabove, the role of the Chief Development Officer is quite clear. This section shall be focussing on the role of the store managers for the various stores of Subway all over the United States as well as the over the globe. The Store Managers are responsible for the entire functioning of the different stores for Subway. They have to deal with effectively building the sandwiches as per the preferences of the customers within a fixed period, so that they can handle the high amount of rush in the various outlets. The Store managers also have the added responsibility of conducting the business based on the community and the locality that they are functioning in (McGlothlin, 2014). They analyse their external environment for proper marketing of the products and efficiently running the business. They also have the ability to handle the customers such that they customers feel welcome at the various outlets of Subway and they have the feeling of visiting them over and over again.
