Success is the ultimate goal of every individual as it is linked to a number of factors such as happiness and satisfaction which are often the key purpose of life. However, with success comes competition and struggle which determines the strength of a person preparing him to either fail or to achieve. Whether it is at school or at workplace, everyone is motivated to achieve the best and succeed thereby leaving everyone behind. For this reason, it is quite often that students are seen to steal the assignment of another classmate just to receive a better grade. Similarly, in order to win a game, a tennis player spends days at the fitness club while a manager continues to strive with the hope of replacing his CEO. Therefore, since succeeding in every realm is highly important, people incessantly resort to extreme measures such as performance enhancing drugs to achieve what they desire.
Call it a magic pill or a smart drug, names such as Provigil, Adderall and steroids are common in the world of performance enhancing drugs. As the name suggests, these substances improve performance thereby directly influencing the level of energy, activeness and strength of a person. For this purpose, it is being widely used not only by the sport professionals and military personnel, but it has become an essential part of a teenager as well as an office worker. Performance enhancing drugs come in different forms such as the dietary supplements because of which it is often difficult to categorize it and scrutinize its effect. This is due to the underlying fact that although at one end it is benefitting the sports professional and the soldier as their performance is not only for their own good, it is also advantageous for the economy and the well-being of the society (Congeni, 2000).
The use of performance enhancing drugs may at one hand be termed illegal by several countries; it is being widely used by professionals as well as the adolescents who are in a race to win at all cost. In contrast, these drugs which are also being used at workplace take the role of a quick fix medicine as it boosts the level of energy and concentration required at an organization. The use of such drugs at workplace is mainly because of the fascination attached to the role of super stimulants which increase the short term memory and provides a push for the brain. Although, the use of these drugs are benefitting the organization with lesser number of employees doing quality work for longer hours, the long term impact of these drugs is extremely dangerous (Ubelaker, 2012).
The habitual use of performance enhancing drugs impair the neurological, psychological, reproductive, cardiovascular, musculosketal and the overall health and functioning of the body (Congeni, 2000). Since drug testing at workplace reveals that workers taking these drugs often claim higher health and compensation benefits and have higher rate of absenteeism. Although it is often tough to eradicate this behavior, it is important to note that drugs end up taking the life of an individual (Browning, 2005). For this reason, instead of being extra passionate of beating people around and opting for quick fix magic, adopting a healthy lifestyle s the most easiest and effective secret to success. Thus, creativity, performance, and energy do not require smart drugs that end up taking these assets from a person. In fact, it is the healthy diet, exercise and work-life balance that enhances performance without causing danger.
