The video that presented different aspects of a modern family, parenting, and marriage holds interesting facts that show how science can change the meaning of the word family. The first area that was notable in the video was the emergence of technology that enabled three different individuals to become the parents of a child, including the surrogate mother. The video made me understood that the modern family is far different from what it was centuries ago. For instance, the legality of same sex marriage gave way to the new meaning of the word parents. Long ago, this term means a father and mother in a family. However, the legalization of same sex marriage made it possible for two males to be called legally married. Now, two individuals of the same gender can build a happy family by looking for a surrogate mother. Moreover, the legal aspect also enabled surrogacy, which is quite beneficial for couples who are unable to produce an offspring, to act as an alternative means of building a family. Although, for sure, there are other members of the community who view this type of pregnancy as unethical in some ways, it still helps many couples to fulfill their reams to become parents. Every person may have his or her own perspective when it comes to pregnancy, marriage, and family as a whole. What is ethical for one may be unethical for the other. That is why, regardless whether or not the parents are of the same sex; their parenting technique must be done in a way that the child will grow in a happy family with full support of both parents. This is also regardless whether the child was born through surrogacy or not.
