Human development occurs in different stages. Each stage has its systematic emotional changes, psychological changes and perceived changes. Actually, a young adult is a person who is generally between the age of 20-40.As a matter of fact it represents a genuine phase of development in the cycle of human life (Power & Lorna, 2000). Transitional position of early adulthood shares numerous traits with the entire development process in adulthood and youth.
During early adulthood, many psychological problems arise. At this stage of development, individuals become more concerned with the developing the ability to enjoy and share intimate relationship. The big problem arises when choosing marriage partner and family (Rider & Sigelman, 2008). Most of the relationship lead to long-term effects. Individuals believe that at this stage of development, it is possible for one to form mature intimate relationship and also develop mature friendship (Power & Lorna, 2000).
Early adulthood psychological problems also involve securing personal identity. People at this stage struggle to at least get an identity in the society. In most communities individuals should be in a position to identify themselves in a certain way, so as to develop a sense of belonging.
Culture shock is experienced by many individual at this stage. People at this age bracket are reoriented in to family ties. They start becoming the parents in the family rather than being dependent on their parents. As a matter of fact they face the pressure of taking responsibilities in the family (Rider & Sigelman, 2008).
Individuals at early adulthood are energetic enough to select their long-term careers and vocations. Actually in the contemporary society choice of vocations has become very difficult. Hence many individuals get frustrated psychologically because the society does not give them a chance to select a vocation of choice (Power & Lorna, 2000). Furthermore, this group can be very confused, because they are at the same time looking for companion as well as developing careers.
The realities of life hit hard and demand more at this age. Individuals at early adulthood struggle hard in order to find their place in the society and in the adult world. In addition their visions and dreams need to be made a reality; hence they try to fold out for their responsibilities and future. The lifestyle of individual at this age is incredibly good, but it actually fades away when the hopes and dreams of tomorrow turn round into view (Rider & Sigelman, 2008).
Early adulthood is actually a bridge between adult and adolescence. This dramatic and shocking change occurs so fast yet there are no rules to inform them on what to do and how to do it. This in most cases causes psychological problems, leading to lose of hope and total confusion. Additionally, these psychological problems come up because of more vulnerability of individuals towards hardships and so many stresses. Arguably, all this problems arise due to the transitional change.
