Introduction
One of the catastrophes that the world faces today is earthquakes. An earthquake is formed when certain energy is released in the earth’s crust and as a result creates a type of waves referred to as seismic waves. It is the effect of the movement of these waves that results in an earthquake Not all parts of the world experience this but some countries like Japan are unfortunate as earthquakes are experienced frequently. Just recently Japan was faced with one which caused massive damage to the country as a whole. An earthquake cannot be predicted and thus victims of such a catastrophe ought to be always prepared just in case it strikes. Though there will be damage caused, it would not be as massive as it would have been if safety measures had not been in place.
The effects of an earthquake are brutal to both the country and its citizens. Japan for example has suffered a great loss in nearly all corners of the country. Buildings have been destroyed, roads have been damaged and people lost their lives. The most affected however are the people themselves. They succumbed to the ruthlessness that the earthquake impacted on them. This is just to say that the main victims of an earthquake are basically human beings as their live are disrupted. They get to start over new lives hoping that they will not suffer another earthquake again. This leaves behind painful memories brought about by the loss that they incurred in the course of the earthquake.
In the event of an earthquake some other catastrophes may be caused. These are tsunamis, fires, or even death of human beings. They disrupt the peaceful and healthy living of the people. Tsunamis which mainly comprise of strong waves blow up rooftops or even bringing down houses. Those who live by the beach or nearby become victims of the menace. They are left homeless or with damaged houses which would later require repair thus bringing a challenge to those who are not financially stable. This happens because the government also gets affected thus its effectiveness in handling such calamities is undermined.
Fires caused by earthquakes have grievous effects on people. At times crops get burned down as well as other property belonging to the people. Their lives therefore get disrupted as some of the people such as farmers get to suffer a great loss. Their work gets destroyed thus killing their morale to produce. Apart from this the economy experiences some problems in some sectors such as the agricultural sector. People generally go without food due to the destruction caused by the fire and at times others die.
Conclusion
Earthquakes mainly come along with a lot of destruction. They destroy and disrupt people’s lives. As much as other sectors are also affected, human beings are the ones who suffer most. Their efforts for building and developing the world are rendered useless when an earthquake destroys everything that they have worked for. A lot of people do not survive earthquakes thus leading to a reduction in population. Loved ones are lost but unfortunately nothing can be done except preparing their selves incase another earthquake strikes. Though their lives are disrupted, they should look for the way forward; they should try and improvise precautionary measures so as to minimize the damage which may be caused in the event of an earthquake. Life must go on.
