Efficiency is of paramount importance in the world. With improved technology, people are ready to drop the old technology and adjust to the new products and devices. Many times they prefer more updated or edited versions of books that allow them to stay refreshed with the information facts of the most recent studies. However, with each update, books have to be reprinted and distributed to the readers. This process causes many problems concerning efficiency. It is not efficient to have copies of the same book, and source updates on lengthy textbooks. The process of updating printed versions of books is not only tedious but may not be reliable. As a result, electronic books tend to appeal to many users in the recent past. By using e-books, people can read, write and listen to their favorite books or books that are new to the market without having the burden of carrying each of them physically. People are interested in using ebooks because they positively impact on their productivity, efficiency in environmental conservation, and physical health of the reader.
Fundamentally, people are interested in things that save time. It is because of this that the evolution of technology is making most of the human activities time-efficient. In this case, using e-books allows the readers to take notes on different parts of the content quickly due to the easiness of use. Having the option to take notes on one’s book without having to bring a pen, highlighter, and the book is a luxury provided by the technological era. Besides, being able to take notes on an electronic copy of a book allows the reader to go back to an important concept, theme, or quote when necessary automatically trough the search function. In this respect, one does not only save many flips through pages but also lists all of the notes by subject or time one made them. Consequently, the tool saves a significant amount of time.
In a printed book, if one wanted to skim through the book and see the most relevant sentences in the highlighted sections, one finds it difficult to track the pages or quotes because the old unorganized fashion of flipping pages as one goes may be confusing. No doubt the beauty of having a file on a book that shows notes and highlights helps the reader to stay organized. Upon clicking the sub file on notes, one can see the notes on the margins of the book, and on a list from chronological order. It follows that the productivity of the reader increases because as one can read with speed and precision.
Moreover, as many people would agree, printing books is a costly process. The cost is not only regarding the author's inputs but also from an environmental perspective. The concept of conserving the environment involves reducing global warming. A considerable number of people like printed books without knowing that they are contributing to global warming. The printing companies consume a significant amount papers to produce printed books. Paper manufacturing relies entirely on trees. Following the high demand for printed books, forests get cleared to provide timber for the production of the papers.
Forests act as carbon sinks because they use carbon dioxide, one of the most potent greenhouse gasses, during photosynthesis. From this point of view, environmentalists promote the idea of turning green, and using technology to read, because that cuts down the production of paper. Besides, hard copies could easily be wrinkled, crumbles or damaged due to being in the bag for too long, or spilling of liquids such as water or coffee. In this case, the printed book becomes useless ending to the trash bins. It follows that the person has to purchase another one and, as a result incurring undue expenses. E-books are not subject to such damages and, therefore, would be less costly and also conserve the environment.
Another aspect that proves ebooks are the way to go is the health issue. If as a community and people of earth, choose to live without their printed books, they would save forests. Research shows that forests and vegetation covered areas such as parks in town have a positive impact on the health of the residents. For instance, trees produce oxygen after using carbon dioxide. It follows that those suffering from asthma may get a reprieve if they live near forests. Besides, children do not need to carry heavy books in their backpacks that tends to hurt their spinal cord. At the same time, college students may find it impossible to take the books with them because some are too big to fit in the bags. In fact, if every class required one taking the designated book(s), one would have to use a cart just to carry them around. If all of the required books were available through e-books, the heaviest thing one would have to take to school would be either an Ipad or laptop that a majority carry for other uses.
In conclusion, as people are getting smarter with technology many things that were once popular are becoming obsolete. Science has since created a revolution of how people operate in the community. It makes sense for people to want to get better regarding technology. Consequently, people have realized that changes are inevitable. Clearly, if people to use ebooks instead of hard copy books is something that could be very beneficial concerning productivity, efficiency, and physical health.
