We are now in the year 2016. However, there have been changes that were promised to be made in 2016, but a problem is that we have not really seen many of those changes yet. The article that was read is from March of 2015, and it talks about the changes that it looks forward to see not only in the rest of 2015, but the future as well. Some economic terms within the article itself include poverty, which defines the lack of necessary resources required for living, and epidemic, which describes an issue (usually health-related) of global proportions. Other terms include desertification, which describes a once fertile land become very vast and barren, and sustainability, which refers to the lifespan of resources that need to last.
Now in the article, economic development is a major factor that is talked about. This does not just have to do with the state of the economy as of the 2008 stock market crash, but it also has to do with areas around the world that still have people living in poverty as well. For example; the reading talks about economic development in regards to helping those who have struggled financially due to massive earthquakes that have happened in cities, or even tsunamis that have wiped out entire cities as well. According to “The Economist”, Mary Robinson, a former president of Ireland, called 2015 “the Bretton Woods moment for our generation” (“Unsustainable Goals”).
Now, some people tend to agree on the notion that the year 2015 was the moment of our generation, because the economy kept getting worse in the year. In fact, in the Fall of 2015, the economy got so bad, that there were many people who were predicting that the economy would end up crashing. However,, they were wrong, so that means it is not too late for change. Now, in spite of the fact that there does not seem to have been much change since the year 2015, the article definitely shows that there are still people who care and looking for the change that many others want to see as well. For example; the article discusses the fact that in 2015, many conferences were held to tackle serious issues, and one of them involves climate change. Some people fail to realize just how dangerous climate change can be if it is not tackled and handled properly. As “The Economist” states about climate change, “Climate change can increase the number and severity of disasters, and increase poverty since hundreds of millions living just above the poverty line risk being pushed back into destitution by a flood or epidemic”. (“Unsustainable Goals”). This can be agreed on, because climate change could cause an area that is usually known for growing fresh crops to experience flooding. As a result, this would end up drowning and destroying the crops in the process.
Although not stated directly, one thing that the Economist article talks about is the human development index. This is defined as the statistic of life expectancy in terms of money, health, and education. These conferences meetings that are held all cover these topics, and they do their best to ensure that they are talked about in a professional manner. People lose money and health where there is devastation such as earthquakes and tsunamis, and money is also an issue in this regard as well. Money also comes into play, because of what people lose, and because schools can get destroyed, there may be a lack of education opportunities for those who live around the area as well. However, with proper money management by the government, funds can go to what truly needs to be done to solve the issues that are currently going on in this world. This also ties into the poverty cycle, which can be defined as a generational curse of poor families that pass down a bloodline. Thus, we may say that the definition of the poverty cycle is confusing. In order to get a clear understanding of the discussed issue, we have to appeal to the clear explanation of the discussed term. Only in this case effective solutions can be provided, and appropriate solutions of poverty can be submitted. It seems that poverty is an endless process that will bother the world forever. However, if some measures are taken, then appropriate results will be achieved. On the other hand, if nothing is done, then the situation will worsen day after day. To offer the solutions directed at reducing this tendency, we have to appeal to the core definitions. Thus, poverty cycle can be characterized by the following situatipon: whe community or separate individual falls below a particular resourcefulness level, a number of events begins that tendencies to perpetuate the event: considerably lower the level of training and education. It causes a lack of employment possibilities, raising criminal behavior inorder to survive, shattered health, various types of addiction, early deathes, and problems in families. In other words, it breaks the future, and will make the next generations to face collapse or another reality. This poverty cycle proceeds until some person iprovides worthwhile means for the humanity in order to give them an opportunity to ensure lives and health of their children.
However, what is necessary to solve this problem is to changing the mindset, and deciding to go out and make a change. In other words, just because a generation has suffered the same fate repeatedly, things do not always have to be the same. The Human Development Index may be helpful in this case. This term was first released in 1990 as a part of the UN Human Development Report. HD is directed at shifting the focus of development regarding the three factors considered as core in expanding the provided for the people possibilities. T
We may conclude that on the basis of the provided economic terms and important suggestions, the situation in the world regarding the global poverty is not desirable. The analyzed article is interesting and persuasive. It really shows the issues that are going on in our world today. However, it also sheds a positive light on what has been happening in our world as well, because the article demonstrates that there are people who do care to meet the needs of others. It is not almost a year since this article was written, and with things only getting worse in our world, serious actions needs to be taken instantly.
