Bernie Sanders on Economic Inequality
The main ideas of the author are to articulate how the Democratic presidential aspirant hopeful, Bernie Sanders, views economic inequality in the United States. According to Bernie Sanders, the middle-income earners in the United States have been on the decrease in the past forty years (Louwes, 2016). Additionally, as the number of the middle-income earners reduce, the gap between the poor and the rich is widening. To address this problem, Bernie Sanders suggests a five strategic plan. Acknowledging the economic disparities is the first step to solving the economic inequality the US is facing at the moment. After putting into actions policies that will favour the vast majority and not the few who are the richest, the next step is to fix the tax code for the citizens. According to the author, the super-rich in the United States does not pay the rightful amount in term of taxes. Increasing the access to opportunities and creating more jobs to the poorest will lift most of the people to middle-income earners. Finally, Sanders suggests that there is a need for reforms in the justice system and to readdress the issue of immigration in the United States.
According to Holland (2015), twenty people in the United States owns as much wealth as a half a million of the United States population. This article has a lot to share with that by Bernie Sanders. The centre theme of both the articles is that they address the economic inequality that is evident in the United States at the moment. It is true that the top twenty rich people in the United States own more wealth than 57 million households in the United States (Joshua, 2015). This is a revelation that everyone must get worried about. I believe that Sanders solution, more so on fixing the tax code will solve the economic inequality in the U.S. the super-rich in this country do not pay the rightful amount while the poor get overtaxed. Readdressing the immigration policies and creating more job opportunity will lift the living standards of many Americans. Therefore, it was a good approach towards addressing the problem of economic inequality.
