Introduction
One of the sectors that can contribute toward the growth of a nation’s economy is the tourism department. If a country devotes time and methods that will help improve tourists spend time and consequently enjoy the attractions their location has to offer, then more often than not it will guarantee an influx of revenue from the tourists. Furthermore, it will increase job opportunity for the locals, which means that the economy will be further improved.
This relationship between tourism and economy has long been recognized; in fact, many articles prove that tourism can boost an economy of a respective country to an extent. One such example is the tourism in the Caribbean islands, which has always been a popular spot for tourists and vacationers alike. One popular tourist spot in the islands is the region of Barbados. Being a part of the Caribbean group of islands, Barbados boasts a rich culture and an exotic array of sights and sounds that is sure to attract tourists who are looking for that Caribbean feel. Mawer (2015) states that the inherent beauty of Barbados lies on a strange mix of the native and European feel, such as Anglican churches interspersed with the tropical surroundings. The article is obviously geared at hopeful tourists who want to experience the Caribbean culture. The host community is welcoming as well—Barbados is one of the safest places in the Caribbean, although one should be wary of the occasional theft. Because tourism is such an integral parts of the countries, the community is naturally friendly and welcoming to tourists and visitors alike.
Another popular tourist spot is the Asian country Thailand, known for its culture which was developed free from any colonial rule. Thailand is popular among tourists because of its relatively cheap costs, its infamous nightlife, and adventures that can be experienced on the country. Like any other tourism article, sites that cover the tourism in Thailand are aimed towards hopeful tourists who want to experience the Thailand life. Thailand tourist websites highlight the diverse culture that the country boasts, mainly its exotic atmosphere and agricultural ambience. It can be said that Thailand as a whole is welcoming to visitors, because it has openly welcomed immigrants and it has a cordial atmosphere, hence it was aptly nicknamed “the Land of Smiles” (“About Thailand”, n.d.)
Lastly, a country well-known for its sights is the African country Egypt. Egypt, as a country, boasts a rich history and landscape amidst the desert atmosphere. The culture of Egypt is rich and diverse, alongside with its unique geographical features. This is what the tourism sites of the country aim to highlight—they hope that the potential visitors will fully utilize the Egypt experience by enjoying the landscape the country has to offer. They also hope that the tourists will partake in the cultures and traditions of the natives as well. As for the welcoming aspect of the country, the country is generally tolerant at most to visitors, although the reports of ongoing conflict and rising threats of terrorism is a quick deterrent to visitors. With that said, the government of Egypt should capitalize on the safety of the visitors in order to ensure a productive stay in the country (Egypt the Future, n.d.)
Conclusion
Overall, the three countries—Egypt, Thailand, and Barbados—rely on tourism as an aspect that could possibly improve the economy of their countries. Each one relies on the highlights of the country to attract visitors and for the most part they have a friendly atmosphere that will help tourists enjoy their stay.
