Education is one of the most important aspects of any human life all over the world, and Canada is not left behind. Education has become very important over the past decades in the country. Every parent ensures that their child/children are in a position to get the best education in the country. Those that cannot afford to take their children to prestigious schools work had to make sure their children have the best of the middle class schools. All of these efforts help in showing us that education is very vital in the development and life of any child, or any individual, right from their childhood. Education plays a big role in the social and economic development of any child and this is why it is important for the Canadians that their children are educated. Education is socially important as it helps in transmitting the central heritage of any culture and helps in completing socialization process of the child. Apart from these two, education is also important because it helps in the formation of one’s personality, reforms one’s attitude, it’s good for occupational placement and helps in conferring one’s status in the society. Finally, education is also socially important as it encourages the spirit of competition. People should, therefore, be interested in educating their children and everyone around them as it helps them to grow socially and economically (Macionis, Benoit & Janson, 2012). With good education, people are in a position to think and weigh daily issues critically and logically. Such aspects are very important in the lives of individuals and the nation as a whole. The details of this paper will discuss in detail the social importance of education.
The first social importance of education is that it helps in completing the socialization process of children (Curren, 2000). The socialization process of children lies within the doctrine of social interaction. Social interaction deals with ways through which people interact with other people in the society or in their circles. In the modern world, most parents are busy to spend time with their children. Due to these reasons, the children in the modern age have a hard time socializing or learning how to socialize for that matter. The school system, on the other hand, have come to play a big role in the lives of these children; schools and other such institutions spend most of their time and energy teaching these children things like cooperation, doing ones duties, good citizenship, following the law among other things. Secondly, education is important because it helps in the formation of personality. Any individual must have his or her own personality that is shaped in ways that are in line with the culture. Every education system in the world has the responsibility of transmitting culture through molding the personalities of these children. By doing this, the education system in Canada helps in integration of these children in the society, which in turn helps them to survive and make themselves useful in the society. Bureaucracy is the process that one needs to follow so as to arrive at something. In this case, the bureaucracy deals with the passage of Canada’s culture from one generation to the other. When we touch on these two issues, we are led to the third importance social aspect of education is that it helps in transmitting the central heritage of any country, in this case, Canada. Every society maintains itself by exploring its culture. The culture of any society is represented by the art, skills, literature, and set of beliefs, religion, philosophy and music among other things that are commonly practiced in that society. Most of the things that are not carried through the hereditary mechanism are all part of a culture must be learned by the children and any individual in any country. For Canada, it is important to pass our culture through social institution especially schools.
The forth importance of education is that it helps in reforming the attitudes of children who already have developed a bad attitude. The attitude of some children depends on their gender. Gender in this case refers to the sex that the child belongs to; some are male others are female. Mostly, there are situations in which female children will feel powerless and not the equal of boy’s education wise and in other aspects of life. In some cases, some children develop bad attitudes, beliefs, jealousy, prejudices and hatred among many other things. And at some point, such attitudes and beliefs affect how they view the world and how they behave. The education system helps in ensuring that these factors of unfounded beliefs and attitudes and gotten rid of from an early age. With such, the child develops better attitude and is in a position to view the world and everything around him or her in a different and helpful angle. The fifth important social factor in education system in Canada is the fact that education helps in occupational placement. Education helps many teenagers gain some knowledge on how to work on different things and also be responsible. It is very easy to see teenage boys and girls in many fast food shops and many others working there. The fact that having even high school education can help one get some employment while they are still in school is good as it has helped many teenagers in Canada learn how to save and work for any money that they need. Such opportunities are helping them to not only earn a living but also helps in preparing them for what lies ahead. The future can be very hard especially if one has grown without learning how to hustle or struggle to get their monies. It even gets worse when these children do not know how to handle such opportunities and situations in which they earn large amounts of money and have bills to sort. Learning this from an early age, which is possible through education, is important in the social development of any child in Canada. The sixth social importance of education is that it helps in conferring the status of any individual in the society (Dewey, 2007).
The amount of education that one has in very important as in most cases, it determines the social status of an individual. Education determines the life that one will live. In most cases, people who have gone though their college education in Canada earn twice as much as those who never finalized their high school education. It is therefore, very important for parents to ensure that their children have attained good education so as to enable them live a better life; and a life of a social status that the children in the modern age always admire. The final social importance of education in Canada is that it encourages the spirit of competition. In school, children are ranked according to their performance. Those that perform well are praised by their teachers and those that do not perform well will be frowned at. With this, some student will feel the need to put more effort into their education so as to ensure they are not frowned at again. All of this helps them better their performance and grades in school, which in turn helps them better their lives and careers.
In conclusion, it is very important for parents to ensure that their children acquire the right and useful education. In Canada, there are many public schools that are afforded to take their children to the high end schools. Education will help their children to become social, earn a better status in the society and also develops their personality. As we have seen, education will also help in reforming and bad attitudes, behaviors and beliefs that these children might have developed.
