1. How does the teacher gain the attention of the class? Does the teacher utilize different strategies to gain the attention at different times in the lesson? What conclusions can you draw about the strategy the teacher uses?
The teacher gains the attention of the class by blowing the whistle. During the entire lesson, the teacher can be seen most of the times blowing the whistle top grab the attention of the students. However, at certain times he can calls the names of specific students to demand their attention or remind them of a particular activity. The teacher uses the whistle most of the times during the lesson to draw attention, sound a specific signal and to clarify an action. In other words, the whistle acts as a means of communication between the teacher and his students where both parties understand the message. Since it is a sports activity class, using the strategy in training builds the students’ knowledge and skills in a sports perspective.
2. What procedures and routines did you observe? Did students know what they are expected to do? Were there transitions? How were the transitions handled? Was the teacher successful in smoothly transitioning from one part of the lesson to the next?
3. What types of behavior management did you observe? How successful are the management strategies you observed in redirecting student behavior?
As a sports class, the game has some specific set rules to be followed which upon breakage may bring punishment to the violating team. The credit would be awarded to the opponents if the other team member breaks one of the rules of the game as a form of behavior management. The management strategies were successful as the students tried as much as possible not to break any rule. At some point in the video, the teacher could be seen clapping in the air for a very short period to a student who had made a correct move. Other students would also like to be appreciated and will be motivated in achieving so. The management strategies yielded positive results.
4. Was the lesson objective written on the board? Was it clearly stated to the students in understandable terms? Did the lesson and activities match what had been reported and written?
The lesson's objective was written on the board and communicated to students. The students seem to understand the goal of the class as they showed positive results during the entire practice. Also, they had shown keen interests to what the teacher had to tell them by directing their attention towards the teacher at the start of the lesson. During the entire lesson, the students showed positive feedback and interests towards the game. The students were not seen to waste time during transitions and were time conscious. Moreover, the teacher summoning the students and moving out of smoothly at the end of the lesson determined that the experience achieved its purpose despite the short time allocated for it in the schedule. Therefore, the lesson and the activities achieved their objective.
