There is a list of things that a person must know and pursue in order to become an effective and efficient employee. First of all, one needs to learn how to prioritize their work. By being able to prioritize, the task at hand will become easier to manage and meeting all deadlines will automatically become much easier, with the important tasks accomplished before the others.
Secondly, to improve one’s performance at work and become more efficient, a positive mental attitude is required. This helps in achieving your tasks with your full potential and dedication. The mind will wander less and focus on the project at hand more.
One of the very important aspects is in a work place is being able to communicate with your coworkers. Once you have perfected your communication skills, work automatically becomes easier and projects that need the assistance of others gets achieved at a faster rate. It would also be useful to improve your other skill set too while working on your communication skills. Some of the important skills that you must learn in a work environment to improve your work are: interpersonal skills, leadership skills, presentation skills and writing skills. These skills will help brush you up for future prospects of your career.
Another factor that comes into play id the ability to keep yourself organized. This includes your desk, papers, filing, stationary, etc. Knowing where every important document and other requirements are, helps in accomplishing a task much faster and it also eliminates the probability of misplacing important documents of making serious errors (Adams).
If you do not hold the ability to multi task, then you must not try to do it, as it would only lead to more complications and important work getting delayed and more errors in the work.
Discovering and understanding your boss’s style of work will help you in completing your tasks without him/her fussing over your work. It would also help you gain his trust and allow him to hand over some of the decision making power to you. Once you understand what your boss wants and how he likes his work done, it builds a better relationship between you and him.
If you do not understand a project or a work assignment, make sure to clarify it with your supervisor. Ask as many questions as you need and make sure you fully understand it before starting the project.
Lastly, learn how to manage your time effectively. Do whatever you need to help you save time and accomplish a task quicker. Make a to do list, keep all the necessary documents you will need close to you, etc. This helps in becoming more efficient and effective as an employee in a company (University of Kent).
An important aspect of being a boss is showing value to your employees. If you value your employees, they will feel a certain sense of belonging to the workplace, hence be motivated to work for your company and under you. It will also help you achieve you targeted goals in time.
For a boss, to be more effective, he needs to give due credit to his employees and make them look good. A company is dependent on the synergy of its employees and their hard work and dedication is what helps it succeed. Giving your employees their due credit will inspire them to work for you and by making them look good, you make yourself and your company look good in the eyes of your seniors and your customers.
An effective boss is one who knows the importance of communicating with his employees and the right means of doing so. Once you have established a good communication with your employees, it becomes easier to accomplish tasks and to make them understand the work that needs to be done. It also helps in knowing where your employees need supervision and keeping a track of their works progress.
When an employee turns in his work or even at every end of the day, have a one on one session with them and give them your feedback on what they have accomplished. The employees get clarity of how the work needs to be done and understand the process, making sure that they do it well and accordingly in the future.
Make sure you do not ignore your employees. Acknowledge them and make them feel imperative to you and the department. When you hand over that sense of belonging to an employee, they double their efforts for working towards the betterment (Economy).
Without a doubt one of the biggest factors on being an efficient boss is by motivating your employees. Discover different way to do so, maybe even have different sessions with HR to understand what motivates employees and what strategies you can implement to do so. One aspect you can implement is giving your employees the right tools and training they need to perform better in the workplace. With it, they will be able to accomplish tasks quicker, with a better sense of understanding and control.
Lastly, learn how to be flexible. In this day and age employees perform better in a flexible environment. In addition, helping your employees figure out lasting solutions to their problems will eliminate the problem from arising again at a later stage and help your employees develop better problem solving skills.
