Literature review: Effects EHR may have caused to the community or other organization.
The electronic health records, also known as HR has had both positive and negative effects to community and health related organizations.
The positive effects:
It has contributed to a great accessibility of data.
This has been of a great advantage to the organizations since it makes the access to data to be very fast, accurate and minimize space for storage compared to the medical charts (Davis & LaCour, 2014). In which case, the records increases availability of data.
Charge capture
The EHR has made it possible for the organizations to keep track of the use of the hospital resources by the patients. This makes it easier to keep the records of what the hospital resources that the patients use and so it is easier to track them and to bill the records for payment. This in turn makes the community to receive better services.
It makes it possible for preventive health screening
The EHRs have also made it easier for the organizations to efficiently do preventive health screening services to patients. This is because the doctor or health physicians are able conveniently access health care record in one place.
The negative effects that EHR to the community or organizations are as outlined;
It has led to a general drop in productivity.
The EHRs were meant to increase the productivity in the organizations. Generally, on the vice versa, it has made the productivity of the physicians to drop and this affects the community based on a reduced efficient and service delivery.
Copy Pasting effects.
The other challenge faced by the EHR is the copy and paste effects. Most physicians prefer copy and paste shortcuts while carrying out routine and or follow up visits to the patients. This puts the patients at a very high risk hence the community too at large. This also reduces the quality of work and corrupts the image of the organizations.
