A personality blind spot is a person’s set of personality and behavioral characteristics that are known to others but are not known to one ’s self. For instance, a person might not know that he is often rude, but this characteristic is known by his family and friends. There is no doubt that a blind spot has several consequences in life. This research, specifically, will focus on the effects of a blind spot on a person’s professional achievement.
Several resources can help in starting this research. This includes Sara Canaday’s Our Seductive Blind Spots, an article that discusses that perceiving too much of one’s strength can hinder success (Canaday). Another article that may be used for this research is Overcoming Our Blind Spots published in Total Life Management. This talks about the different types of blind spots that are common among different professions (“Overcoming”). Pang Li Kin’s book entitled STTS: Professional Image: Your Roadmap to Success will also help start this research. This discusses the factors that influence professional success (Li Kin).
Blind spots negatively affect success factors, which hinders professional advancement: this serves as the tentative thesis of for this research proposal. Although it has been known that blind spots affect ones performance, how it specifically affect success factors need to be explored further. Furthermore, how these blind spots develop or are influenced by different aspects in the workplace also need to be answered. Researching on this topic will help address the blind spots to increase a person’s chances of achieving professional success.
