Emergency medical services can be defined as the medical attentions and services that are dedicated to the provision of treatments and medical care to patients outside a hospital setting. These services are made available at the urgent need and are performed by authorized and dedicated personnel. The role of emergency medical services is generalized being provision of urgently needed medical care to patients with acute health complications; the medical attention provided is aimed at rescuing the patients and thus saving lives of people. Therefore, most emergency medical providers are supposed to be trained in service production to acute medical conditions and emergency attention requirements to patients. The need to analyze the topic of emergency medical services arises due to the current developments in technology and the increase in the number of acute medical complications that are evident among most people in America. The administration and management of the emergency services need to maintain the role of education of the emergency medical services so that to develop a basis for improving the quality of these services to the people. This article analyzes emergency medical services and the roles that they play in the healthcare industry. It also focuses on the management of the emergency medical services and the role of education in this field of service.
Emergency medical services as seen above are of significance while addressing the needs of patients under acute medical complications outside the hospital. The services incorporate the first aid techniques and improvements on the set techniques to improve the condition and situation of the patient, the administration of emergency medical services play an important role in the education of the emergency medical service providers and trainees. For effectiveness of the services that are offered, there is need to maintain the level of education of the emergency medical services in major districts. In this paper, our main focus is on the emergency medical services that are available in Texas district. It is, therefore, important to analyze the roles of emergency medical services that are available for patients. The level of education of an emergency medical technician is a crucial element that should be of concern to the management of the emergency medical service teams. This requires that the technician is versed with knowledge which he or she can apply in the field of practice to bring about safety and evacuation of patients that need to have an acute urgent medical attention (McCoy et al, 2013).
Emergency medical services in the American health care system are dedicated to saving the lives of many people under the need of urgent medical care. Cases of stroke, road or highway accidents, fire outbreaks and rescued hostages may need to be medically assessed in very urgent ways. These cases, therefore, demand that emergency medical service providers be deployed at the scenes as soon as possible. The administration of the emergency service providing teams needs to ensure that the services that are provided are as according to the requirement of the situation. Lin et al, (2012) suggest that the administration of emergency service providers in most cases need to have a team of technicians on patrol and standby so that the deployment of the team is done as soon as a need arises. Therefore, emergency service providers should adhere to the needs that are present in the field and thus their services may be of importance to saving the lives of many people in the area they are located. Also, the need to have qualified staff and quality medical and transport systems in emergency medical service teams is of importance as it determines the quality and effectiveness of the services that are provided by the medical emergency teams (Lin et al, 2012).
The administration and management of the emergency service providing teams should make sure the medical equipment available for use in cases of urgent medical services are efficient and up to date. Most emergency medical cases require that the services offered are accurate in order to save the life of the victims. Therefore, the medical equipment used should be maintained in high quality and be analyzed for any possible breakdowns. Having quality and effective medical equipment at the disposal of emergency medical service providers will improve the medical service provision to the patients. Also, since the administration of the emergency medical services involves the transportation of the patients and staff to the health care center after the basic out of hospital services, there is a need to have an elaborate staff and equipment transportation system. Most emergency medical providers use ambulances while moving patients from the area of administration of the urgent services to the health care centers for further treatment. Warren et al, (2015) suggest that the patient transport system should be another form of health care center, with an exception that is mobile or what he refers to as a mobile health care center. Having a well maintained and equipped ambulance will improve the quality of the services that are offered by emergency service providers and thus it will enable them in making moves and treatments that will save the lives of many people (Warren et al, 2015).
The emergency medical technicians also play a very important role in the administration of the emergency medical care to affected patients. These technicians work to offer the best of their services to patients that require an emergency medical attention. The administration of emergency medical services should incorporate qualified and well-trained personnel to work as technicians, this will ensure the patients and affected people get the best medical attention that will, in turn, rescue their lives during emergency situations. Lin et al, (2012) advise emergency medical providers to provide subsequent training to their medical staff and technicians so that to ensure the services that they provide are always efficient and field relevant. Also, the administration should motivate their technicians so that they can dedicate much of their time to quality work and improve the services that they provide. This will make sure that the emergency medical services that are provided to the affected patients are quality and will save the lives of the patients. The technicians need to be provided with the equipment that is updated and is quality so that to improve the quality of the work that they do. In most cases of emergency service provision, the emergency medical technologists act as the primary people who are in a position to offer the medical attention to the affected people; these technicians use their knowledge and skills to offer the services to victims. It is possible to classify the technicians as paramedics although they are of different qualifications. McCoy et al, (2013)group the emergency medical practitioners as paramedics and support paramedics. In this classification, paramedics are those emergency service technicians that administer medication to victims. On the other hand, support technicians include the operators of medical equipment and the operators of the ambulance and transport methods. These technicians play a very crucial role in the administration of acute urgent medical services (McCoy et al, 2013).
The emergency medical education agenda for the future defines the role of education in the future improvements of the emergency medical services. The education role has been divided into major parts that demand attention from the emergency medical service provider to improve the quality of the services that are provided to ensure safety and better health of the affected people. These areas focus on the areas of emergency medical education, certification and licensing of the emergency medical technicians with the aim of improving the effectiveness of the health care services that are offered by the emergency service providers. These areas are of importance in the delivery of safe and secure services to the patients that are in acute conditions. The administration of the emergency medical service providers should, therefore, focus on the education role in ensuring the emergency service technician offer effective and efficient services to the patients that they deal with.
Emergency medical service education provides a basis for the training and modeling the technicians of the emergency service field. Education offers the concepts that can be applied by the emergency service providers to enable them to work in the service field effectively and efficiently. Lin et al, (2012) demand that the emergency health care technicians be given a diverse field training that will enable them to work on administering medical services to patients. Therefore, institutions that deal with the training of emergency medical technicians should focus on diversity in the training of these technicians to equip them with knowledge and skills that are required in the field of practice. The administration of the emergency medical field should therefore also focus on subsequent training for the technicians to ensure that they efficiently deliver medical services to the patients in the field of operation (Lin et al, 2012).
Certification and licensing of emergency medical practitioners plays an important role in regulating the field requirements and practice ethics in the emergency service provision field. Before an emergency service technician is certified and licensed to practice, there are parameters and requirements that he or she needs to satisfy in the field of practice. The licensing of emergency medical technicians is a comprehensive role and the licensing and certification bodies should, therefore, focus much on this area. Emergency service providers should also focus on the qualifications of a technician before he or she is given a role and responsibility to perform in the emergency service provision. This requires that the administration liaises with licensing and certification bodies before employing an individual in the emergency service production field. Certified technicians are known to have the required skills and qualifications to work as an emergency service provider, this means that he or she is reliable and can deliver efficient and safe treatments to patients in the field of practice. The emergency medical service providers should, therefore, have in place a team of qualified and in most times certified individuals to work as the emergency medical service providers (McCoy et al, 2013).
Emergency medical services have had several positive impacts on most health care services that are available in America. There are cases in which a patient or victim would have died but the intervention of emergency medical services had a hand in saving the patient. From on-site health care services outside the hospital to safe transportation of the patient to a good health care facility, emergency medical services are of crucial importance in the American society. Warren et al, (2015) suggests that since they were incorporated in the American health care system, emergency medical services have had an influence on the performance of most health care institutions. The government is therefore urged to increase the support it has in emergency medical services in America. To ensure that the impacts that emergency medical services have imposed on medical service delivery to patients in acute urgent medical need, there is need to improve the field of emergency service provision. The stakeholders in the emergency medical provision field can focus on implementing factors that can improve the quality of the services provided by the emergency medical services (Warren et al, 2015).
The benefits of the emergency medical services in most districts have been witnessed and praised by many people in the respective areas. However, there still exist challenges that affect the performance and the effectiveness of the emergency service provision field. From lacking better recognition by the government to having fewer funds to carry out their activities, emergency service providers are made to endure some challenges that affect them in one way or another. Also, the licensing and certification of technicians is a complex issue that most trained emergency medical technicians face, the technicians may fail to be recognized if they are not licensed and thus, their services may not be available in the time of need. These challenges may hamper the service delivery by the emergency medical providers and thus, need to be analyzed and solved. To solve the challenges that face the EMS, there should be improvements that need to be enforced upon the practice field. Such improvements that can be made on the emergency medical services field are discussed below.
Emergency medical services need support and financing from both the government and the health care organizations. The funds and support aim at improving g the quality of services that are provided by the EMS practitioners in helping the affected victims. To improve the performance of the emergency medical practitioners for future benefits, the government and healthcare organizations should offer support and funds to the practitioners. McCoy et al, (2013) suggests that the more the support and recognition an individual gets, the more the services he or she can deliver, therefore, emergency medical service providers should be provided with support and recognition from the government and the healthcare organizations so as to improve the quality and efficiency of their services. The recognition and funds boost the morale and the self-drive among the emergency medical service providers and thus increase on their drive to work on saving the lives of many people (McCoy et al, 2013).
The licensing and certification bodies should provide the trained and qualified emergency medical technicians with necessary practicing licenses and certificates. This move will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the technicians and the drive to work. Also, the licenses are necessary for making the emergency medical technician comfortable and relaxed in the field of practice. The licenses also increase the chances of an individual being employed by relevant organizations for practice. The licensing and certification bodies should corporate with centers that train emergency medical practitioners so that the number of certified technicians is increased. Increasing the number of certified and licensed technicians will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency medical services offered by healthcare facilities to the patients and victims. This will make the future of the emergency provision field better because there are more certified practitioners and thus the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency medical service production are ensured (Warren et al, 2015).
The emergency medical service providers should try and improve the quality of the equipment that is used in the emergency medical services. The equipment set includes the mode of transportation and the medical equipment that are used in the administration of services to affected people. The improvements may also include integration of new technology methods in the administration of the medical services. Improving the equipment will enable the emergency medical service providers to determine and work on the required areas effectively and thus will result in saving of many lives of people. Therefore, to improve the services that are offered by emergency medical service providers, there is a need to improve and incorporate the use of modernized equipment and technology in EMS. The future of EMS can be improved by such developments in this field (McCoy et al, 2013).
In conclusion, the emergency medical services play a very important role in the health care organizations of the country. These services are available outside the health care centers are responsible for the saving of lives of many people by providing urgent acute medical services to people. Education of the emergency service technologists is very crucial in ensuring the quality of the services offered by the technicians. The administration and management of the EMS should, therefore, focus on the education role in ensuring that the services offered by emergency medical technicians are efficient.
