Part of the goal of every state or country is to develop a comprehensive, appropriate and effective emergency management system so that minimization of possible casualties would be a lot easier when presented with unexpected phenomenon and emergencies. With the level of technology that we have today, there are already a lot of tools and gadgets that authorities could use to further improve the plans that they have prepared in the past in cases of emergency.
Radios and Mobile Phones for Technology
During disasters such as hurricanes and storms, every second really counts. It only takes a matter of seconds before a house inhabited by a family gets drowned with flood water so, fast reaction and thinking time for rescuers is really essential. One way to assist an Emergency Operations Plan and all other emergency processes related to it is to have a stable line of communication.
There always has to be communication between all people in an emergency team (e.g. rescue teams) so they could respond to situations more swiftly and simultaneously. Mobile Phones and radios are the best examples of this type of communication technology. In fact, radios have already served different emergency-related governing bodies in the past, they only tend to do innovations every once in a while such as introduction of new devices and so on (POP, 2011).
Information Technology
The use of information technology is also becoming more and more common these days that it already reached a point wherein it’s already being used in emergency situations. One particular example where ICT is used in emergency responses is the ECB project. The aim of this specific project is to improve coordination between NGOs and other organizations for better emergency responses (ECB, 2011).
