There has been a serious challenge in retaining employees in the company. To cite a few examples, in the past three weeks two full-time and three part-time workers left the firm without explanation while others have been missing shifts. The trend hurts the company and may force it to close down if there are no urgent interventions. According to Magloff (2016), motivating employees does not only lead to getting the best out of them but also retaining the best workers. It is essential to point out that the most qualified employees are always in high demand in the job market. At the same time, the process of hiring new employees and training them is costly to the company. Therefore, the company needs to set up the following strategies to motivate its entire workforce. These include and not limited to, giving them a reason to believe, show care, recognize the good ones, promotion from within, learning to value “fringe,’ Monetary rewards, and make work fun.
Corner (2014) noted that giving workers a reason to believe may help keep them working in the same company and it involves making the employees share a common vision and mission as the firm. In this regards, they feel that they are part of the system other than a means to an end. The workers would trust their seniors and cooperate. Further, Corner opined that showing care to the employees would motivate them. For example, giving gifts regularly, or compassion messages helps the people to be part of a community that they would wish to belong for a long time. Recognizing the efforts of the employees would also motivate them. The motivation may take many forms like cards, messages, or monetary ones. Financial rewards may include high pay to the best employee or random bonuses. The use of the value of “fringe” benefit can significantly change the employee motivation. Small, but inexpensive measures such as fitness allowances or good food may go a long way in serving this purposes. The case applies if the workers find it fun to work. Promotions are critical in retaining the most qualified workers. It is the expectations of each employee to progress in their career over time. If that does not happen, they end up getting bored with the job and may seek to change jobs to a more dynamic environment. Promotions need to accompany a higher pay.
Warm Regards.
