Review Essay 3
Godzilla
Monster figures can be used in affirming the existing order in that they indicate the presence of theaters to normality, which is purged. In most contemporary monster films, no reassuring vision of restored order is affirmed, and Godzilla is not an exception. The monster is usually figured as a less of an external threat to essential good social order and exaggerated as the most normal features of the same order
In the film, “Godzilla” MUTO is introduced as the antagonist; MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism) is a species of a giant monster. They are considered the first giant monsters to appear in Godzilla movies since Orga. In the film, The MUTOs return to the city to build the nest where the fight between them and Godzilla ensues. They build a nest to have young MUTOs. Ford and his team discovers the nest and blasts it, and the egg explodes. The explosion of the eggs saves Godzilla, who was being overcome by the female MUTO. He runs to the nest. The other fight between the male MUTO and Godzilla ensues but Godzilla easily kills the male MUTO.
Female MUTO sees its opponent, and she strangles him almost killing him before Godzilla appears. He grabs her by the neck and charges atomic rays into her chest after a slight struggle killing her. The exhausted Godzilla throws his head in the water, and everyone believes he was dead until he woke up in the morning. The fame of Godzilla grows as the media acknowledge him giving him all the tiles and crowning him as the “King of Monsters”. They debate him as the only savior of the city, and he makes a final roar before returning to the ocean to remain dormant.
Many reasons qualify Godzilla to fit the criteria of a good monster and being identified as the “King of Monsters”, is one of them. The other evidence is that he is more potent than all the monsters. He survived the army attempts of killing him. Besides, he also killed the complete monsters who were bringing the trouble in the town. The fight was not easy because at sometimes the MUTO almost killed him. He was unstoppable. When the Navy tried to prevent him from entering the city, it resulted in many deaths until he passed. Again, Godzilla fits the criteria because he was able to perform extraordinary things like flying. Feeding on the radiations and radioactive material is the other special things he accomplishes. Monsters will eventually survive and get titles from the people. At the end of the film and war, he was crowned the savior of the city. The media crowned him many titles including the “King of monsters.”
In conclusion, the viewing experience of Monster films often elicits feelings that a purged civil life cannot, by definition afford. Even the classical monster films often elicited sympathy for the monster figures, though conservative social authority had a triumph. The monster should be declared the winner and king, which makes it a good monster. It is because it was the only criteria that would qualify him as the monster among other monsters, in the Godzilla film. The approach gives both the strengths and weaknesses of the monster. He should also be a savior. Besides, the monster is usually figured as a less of an external threat to essential good social order and exaggerated as the most normal features of the same order
