Local or Imported Apples: That is the Question.
I would like to talk about apple as it is one of the most popular fruits all over the world. Almost everybody has apples in the fridge, pantry or grow them in the garden. Apples are the first fruits which appeared in the world according to the Bible. But still where they came from? Are there more advantages of using local apples or imported? And how buying or selling apples influences the economy of the country?
I have chosen the apple – Malus domestica, which belongs to the Rosaceous. The apples came from eastern Turkey, also they have been found in Asia Minor and southwestern Russia. “Apples are produced commercially in 98 countries [sic]”. Near 20 different kinds of apples are produced in the United States of America. So that is not so difficult to buy them or to find the necessary variety. Also apples are produced in China – 48%, the USA – 6%, Turkey – 4%, Italy, Poland, India – 3% and France, Iran, Brazil, Chile only 2%. [1] But still if to import the apples to the USA from the China, the commodity should overcome the distance in almost 12000 kilometers. But what is better – local apples or imported?
The point is that such trade has both sides, I believe. On the one hand it is better for people to buy local apples as they will have fresh fruits and they will know that they were grown on their own land. Local apples may have shorter expiration date but people know for sure that such food is healthy and does not contain genetically modified elements. I do not believe that there are some disadvantages of buying local apples for the customers. I buy local food and I am satisfied with the quality and prices. Imported food usually costs more expensive, so there is one more plus for the customers in buying local food. Also imported apples have longer expiration date so there is a bigger chance that the providers can prolong it with the help of genetically modified elements, for example. Of course, such apples will not be healthy and tasty. But there are pluses in imported food for the economy of the country first of all.
Every country tries to set up communication with other countries and trade is one of its elements. First of all if one country sells apples to our, for example, we can sell them something else. In such a way we support each other with different products. The imported food costs in the market more than local, so the authority has more money from the imported apples. In such a way the authority can invest money into the country and develop it. I believe that there are only benefits from imported food as people always buy any food you give them and the country only win. It has good relations with other nations, more money for further development. Sometimes a wealthy country can even help another buying some products very cheap as that country has too much of it, and can save its exes and multiply the incomes.
Personally I buy this product very often. First of all it is very healthy, rather cheap and beneficial. I can buy as local apples so the imported ones. I can say that I will buy them always because these are the most available fruits and as I often keep on a diet this is the most suitable variant for me. As for me I believe that it is good that the global trade affects the economy of a certain country because if the economy develops, so the country does. There is nothing bad in the exchange of products between different nations. Somebody has this or that and somebody does not, so we can help. By the way there is a certain product for a certain customer no matter whether it is local or imported. To sum everything up, I would like to say that there should be the global food trade and people will choose what is better to buy for them. Maybe for someone is just interesting to try an apple from Turkey, not the USA, but it will be a great plus for the economy of both countries. So, local and imported food should both exist.
