One could conceptualize this popularity as reflecting an intolerance of differences in society. Contemporarily, due to globalization, there has been an unprecedented mixing of cultures, which has generated many different social phenomena. This has led cultures to adopt habits of other, usually more powerful nations, in such a way that almost erases their own identity. Furthermore, immigration has also led people to deal with other ethnicities and societies in a way that people could not conceive before. Therefore, people have started to react to these differences in society in different ways, sometimes negatively, wishing that these people would disappear.
This is a dangerous way of thinking because it implies the suffering and death of those that are different to the rest. Even though having a strict moral compass is important, as it helps differentiate between good and bad, it is not something that should be so extreme as to kill those that do not conform to one’s standards. This type of eradication of the impure can be seen in philosophies so harmful to humanity as the Nazi regime in Germany. They also believed that they could distinguish between those that were pure and those that were impious. Their logic was that those that were tainted should be murdered, leading to the disastrous consequences everybody is aware of today. Therefore, this apocalyptic line of thinking is very dangerous to society.
