The introductory part of the essay should focus on letting my audiences know the precise issues and benefits of playing lottery. A clear statement of opinion to the college students would inform them that playing lottery could be a profitable activity that could help them to pay the school fees. Lottery involves risking a small amount of money in expense to win huge prices. The students have to set aside only a small proportion of their expenses fund to try their luck. A player’s risk to reward ratio is therefore impressive. If one is to loose, he/she would loose a remarkably small amount but if they win, they take home an appealing reward.
On the other hand, the introductory part to the businessmen would be much persuasive. Since, the businessmen have adequate knowledge that can help him to distinguish between investing and spending, it would be easier to convince him. One can spend; let say $10 on lottery as investment to win an impressive large amount of money. In addition, I would give the businessmen opportunity to ask themselves whether they should play the lottery by outlying the benefits of playing lottery.
The thesis statement of the speech should be different of to each of the audiences. Not only due to their difference in their earnings but also due to their response to the topic. In these persuasive situation audiences develops subset of neutral and disagreeing audience about the topic. After outlining the benefits of lottery and giving out examples of the people that had been made rich by playing lottery, it would be easier to convince the neutral students. The thesis statement for the businessmen would therefore be more persuasive towards their concern.
An example of a lottery winner is James Dixon who lives in a better and improved life, thanks to his lucky investment. The winning ticket gave him a chance to brighten his future after emerging the winner of $ 200,000. He was able to manage and plan for his fortune and within five years he had tripled the amount. Today Dixon is among the millionaires who are living in their dreams. Lesley Vickars is also one of the few millionaires in America after winning and effectively planning for his fortune of $25 million lottery. The example would be the same to my audiences because my intention is to derive the same interest from them.
I would use visual aids such as photographs and pictures in projected power point presentation. This will be effective way to illustrate how the lottery is played. In addition these visual aids will show the lifestyle of the people who have won the lottery and give comparison of their lives before and after winning the lottery. Projected power-point is an effective visual representation because it can be view by much audience at the same time.
I would identify an appropriate way to trigger the listeners’ emotions whether positive or negative. However, in the end I cannot completely meet the concerns of all audience but will at least present my speech in a strategic way while taking the listeners’ concern into consideration. This will illustrate that I am showing my sensitivity and awareness to the audiences and make the audience feel the safety and benefits of playing lottery.
