Introduction:
In the present day and age, computers have evolved to allow the incorporation of several features. These features help enhance the capabilities of the machine and thus what the user can do with it. When a company wants to acquire new computers, they need to consider several factors. Such factors include price, portability, memory capacity, and the ability to use word documents among others. These factors depend on the needs of the company. In the case of H.L. Winman Associates, a hand held device is of more importance than any other forms of computers available in the market. This is because of the nature of their work. The employees travel on a constant basis. The need for a computer is inevitable, as well as a computer that handles word documents. It is expected that the machines are close to or similar to the laptops to minimize errors during transition.
Devices under consideration:
The machines put into consideration are the palm pilot, Iphones, Ipads, and the Ultrabooks. The palm pilot however has emerged as an outdated product. It is however necessary to air its features to display the prowess of each devise as a comparison. The table below displays some of the features of the machines pointed out. These features help determine which machine to buy and which not to.
Analysis and recommendation:
Looking at the features of the machines as shown in the table above, it is quite clear that the Palm Pilot is out of question. This is due to the fact that is does not have the capability of handling the much needed Microsoft word. The remaining three machines however have their strengths and weaknesses. The company requires machines that can maintain power over long periods preferably more than 5 hours. They also require that the machine have Microsoft word capability, which implies additional requirements. Another requirement is that the price of the machine be fair, as they want to buy close to 20 of them.
Looking at the Iphone and the Ipad, the machines’ were intended for the smart phone market. This is deduced from the all touch features that they have. It is however not conducive for fast efficient office work that comes in hand with what the company does. Looking at the ultrabook, the cost is high, but a transition to the machine would be easy and fast. Working with the ultrabook would be fast, power maintenance is high, and the performance capabilities are as required. In addition, it is a high quality machine that is guaranteed to offer service over a long period of time. This cost is worth footing. It seems logical to go with the ultrabook as it provides an all-round machine that is capable of delivering the fast and quality services that the company need. Cost aside, all the other feature cover for it. The cost will eventually be covered as the company progress.
