Arguably, values mostly give broad and wide preferences regarding appropriate courses of outcomes and action in human life. Personal values, actually reflects individuals sense of wrong and right. In addition the personal values tend to have a great impact on the attitude and behaviors of people. As a matter of fact personal values give an internal reference to the characters of people. In most cases personal values are developed at the early stage of a person and may show some resistance to change later in life. They evolve from the situations in the external world, and with time it can transform from good to bad.
Debatably, gay marriages have increased tremendously in the world. It raises arguments on both the positive and negative impacts. There are those who push for the legalization of the gay marriages, while others are totally against. Individuals and organizations in favor of implementation of laws that support gay marriages, view it as been recognition of gay rights and freedom. The norms and values in society have completely eroded. The parties who go against gay marriages have both religious and personal reasons.
Actually, the arguments against gay marriage are mostly based in personal values and religious beliefs. Most religious organization believes that gay marriage is a sin. Presence of conservatism in the world doesn’t want to recognize relationships that are seen as evil. Religious groups are mostly guide by what is in religious scriptures. Religion insists that the upright marriage since the creation of the earth is between woman and man. Additionally marriage is a religious rite of passage that is sacred (Roleff 127). Hence gay marriage should not have any room in the religious institutions. For example in the bible, the penalty for gay marriages is death to both parties. (Leviticus 20:13).
Gay marriages weaken the institution of family and marriage in the society. For example in America families are build on the bedrock of society norms and values, therefore gay marriages weakens the institution of family leading to decline in values and moral. When the society allows gay marriages it implies that the values of the community will completely decline (Brownson 3-6).
As compared to lesbians, it is difficult for homosexuals to have children. The only way in which gay marriage gets children is by adoption. Study shows that the adopted children are at a high risk of being molested sexually. In addition the children need mothers, but gay marriages completely deny children their right to have a mother (David 260). Mothers mostly provide children with social and emotional support hence children growing from these families lack good morals. Personal values of children will not be fully developed. This has negative consequences to the society in the future.
Personal values can be inherited, leaned from teachers, copied from parents, and the important people in the life of individual. As the gay marriages increase in society, it affects the entire growth of people living within the environs. Children grow on values that are not good.
The war on gay marriage increases daily in the world. Religious leaders, politicians and activists have brought up controversial comments on the case. For example some states in US include Massachusetts and Iowa support gay marriage while others completely condemned. These controversies have caused divisions in the society. Individuals do not compromise on each other’s rights.
Gay marriages cause conflict in the future. Parents of the same sex cannot clearly teach his children on the values to be followed in the society. Therefore children will in an abnormal way, either socially or psychologically. Gay marriages continue to grow; this is because the youth of today have grown up in a society with no values. For example in San franscico, approximately 4,000 couples received license.
Societies in the traditional setup have their own believes, that need to be followed up to date. Traditionally other communities believe that same marriages are unhealthy and unnatural. Therefore individuals who become part of the gay family lose their dignity, class, respect and courage to face others in the society (Roleff 22-24). Legalization of gay marriage in Massachusetts has caused lots of problems in domestic violence, business, legal profession, education and public health.
