Essay On Anthropocentric And Andocentric

Anthropocentric refers to a state where human beings view themselves as the only and the most important thing in the world as a whole. It is a state of human need for a feeling of supremacy and evaluation of truth in a human being’s point of view especially in regards to culture, religion and other unexplained phenomena. (Oxford English dictionary). The thinking and feeling that the human race is most superior forms the basis for some natural concepts of human rights.
Androcentrism refers to the placement of masculine human beings or the use of a masculine opinion in the way one views the world, its culture and its history as a whole. Androcentric characteristics mostly apply in societal places, for example, education, sports, film and T.V, arts, literature, Christianity, law and politics, where the male dominates. This means the masculine has an upper hand in decision making, activities that are carried out and hence a masculine bias on the area (Oxford English Dictionary). This can be seen where by men and boys could get a formal education yet women were required to stick to house duties; also a large number of TV and film productions have been created and directed by men; which may result to a bias in masculinity.
It is therefore right to say that anthropocentrism is biased in terms of the whole human race whether male or female, which means that it affects the social and cultural beliefs of the entire world. Androcentric on the other hand is biased since it capitalizes on the male. Its right to say that in Androcentrism, the only recognized entity is the male, who is the centre of all decision making. Yes, these two ideologies affect the society largely in term of social and cultural practices.
