Before, I look at the importance or why knowing the difference in art matter, it is prudent to define the term art. Art refers to the expression or the application of the human creative skill and imagination in the form of painting or the sculpture. It can also refer to the craft, skill, science, workmanship among the rest. This paper will investigate why knowing the difference in art matter. The paper shall examine the importance of knowing the difference between certain arts for instance the byzantine and the Romanesque arts. The paper shall also examine the knowledge the author will have gained at the end of this study about the art. The following paragraph shall examine two examples of traditional art: that is Romanesque and the byzantine.
Romanesque
The term Romanesque refers to the architecture of the 11th and the 12th centuries in the medieval Europe to the roman architecture. This type of art is characterised by the following: modest height, horizontal lines, the multiple units, and dark, solemn spaces, round archives among others. An example of the Romanesque art is the Roman Basilica in Rome. The Romanesque Art was the first style since the end of the Roman imperial.
Byzantine Art.
This can be described as the artistic products of the eastern Roman Empire. It was an empire which emerged as a Christian empire. The Byzantine identified themselves as Romans. They were generally conscious of their continuity with the ancient Greeks and the Romans.
Why does knowing the difference in art matter?
Arts matter refers to the positive contribution which the study of arts makes to the lives of the individual. Its fundamental goal or aim is to bring about a greater understanding of how arts can enable children to meet their aims and challenges. Different arts exists .for instance, singing, dancing, drawing among other things.
It is prudent to note that knowing the difference in arts matter especially to the student because it can contribute to the intellectual, social, physical and the emotional growth as well as the well being of the students. The participation and learning of different artistic products can easily broaden the student’s horizons in various ways. It is important to note that, through studying different arts, students learn some of the various artistic practices which comprise both the traditional and the contemporary artistic product of various cultures. It also enables the student to learn and appreciate the similarities and the differences which might exist between the various forms of artistic products or expression. For instance, the difference between drawing and dancing and their significance. The study of different arts also provides the students with an opportunity to engage in an imaginative and innovative thought. For instance dancing and singing enables student and different people to develop their imaginative and innovative opportunities. It also enables the student to be able to develop and communicate their thoughts in different unique ways.
Knowing difference in art also enables the students to conceptualize the differences which exist in some of the ancient artistic works such as the Byzantine Art and the Romanesque
Art. It enables different scholars to understand the differences between the artistic works. It also enables the student to acknowledge some of the significances of different traditional artistic work like that of the fort Jesus in Kenya. . Different arts can also enable children to engage in activities which earn them income.
What have I gained from studying art?
I would like to state that there are a lot of things which an individual can gain in art. Therefore, as an art student, I have, gained a lot in studying this subject. First and foremost, I am able to design some beautiful pictures or even draw a beautififul photograph of an individual which at the end earns me income. Art has also enabled me to gain some historical perspective and understanding. In addition, it has allowed me to appreciate different periods in the history and their impact and the significance they have in this modern world. Furthermore, art has lifted my thinking beyond the confines of reality into another world all together. For instance, the use of art to express fantasy hence creates a world in which the artist could wish that all of us lived in. .
