The trait theory determines the type of personality an individual comprises with, particularly when exhibiting the roles in an organization. The Big Five-Personality Traits (BFT) includes “openness to experience” that signifies the intellectual and imaginative mind in personality exhibition. Second, an “emotional stability” signifies the relaxed and calm personality of an individual. Third, the trait of “conscientiousness” refers to the dependable and achievement driven personality of an individual. “Agreeableness” indicates that an individual is trustworthy and cooperative towards work and “extraversion” states that an individual is extremely interactive and assertive by nature (John & Srivastava, 1999).
Based on the scores, I agree to the fact that my personality is more towards openness to experience. Within my social circle, I am very imaginative, and encourage friends to try new and adventurous things in life. This is extremely precise about my personality since I do show evidence of such behaviors. Sharing one incident of life under this regard, whenever I make plans for outing with my friends, I tend to make plans that comprise with adventure and exploration. Travelling is one of my virtue, particularly to places that far from home. I am extremely comfortable with newer environments; for instance, the exciting moments of my childhood were change of schools, which is usually an additional experience for me. Surrounded by familiar environment is a discouraging and unexciting stuff for me that I consider as an insult to life. I believe that repetitive experience does not increase the reach of thinking, which is essential for people to excel in life.
The second highest score of my personality was recorded in “emotional stability”. I disagree, since my personality is extremely wild to excitement and adventure. I cannot control my excitement and enthusiasm toward plans, which makes my appearance as impatient. I could barely wait my nerves when people are planning to give my surprises on birthdays and other occasions. It is correct that patience is not among my virtues of life.
I agree with my 8 points score in conscientiousness since my plans and their achievements are dependable on the social circle I belong. Yes, I am highly achievement oriented in life and aim for higher goals and rewards. As evidence, I would share my high school graduating experience under this regard. On my graduation, my family offered me an expensive watch and a mobile phone. However, I demanded a long vacation in Paris with my friends and remained stubborn.
I highly disagree with my score in extraversion since interaction and socialization are few essentials of my life. This trait is the reason that drives me impatient and results in lack of credibility and social conflicts, as I am a disaster in keeping secrets. As stated previously, visiting new places and restaurants are my passion because of self-believe that things should be given at least a chance.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I believe that due to my enthusiasm for attempting new things in life would result in preference of reputed employers. According to Casserly (2012), approximately 80% employers prefer energetic employees to be hired when short-listing the candidates. My personality would make me an extraordinary team player, which is a huge advantage within corporate competition. I believe that interacting with unknown people and getting along with them for longer period is highly effective in making and sustaining relationships. Usually, people ignore this aspect when penetrating into the corporate world but building relationships and sustaining them are important for career growth and public relations (PRs).
On the contrary, lacking of my personality traits in agreeableness is a biggest challenge that threatens the factor of relationship building. My impatience and weakness in keeping secrets would question my credibility among colleagues and increase the probability of ignorance. Personally, I believe that attaining traits of agreeableness is necessary for sustaining relationships for lifetime. Combination of agreeableness with extraversion and openness to experience would bring a synergy impact in context to socialization and interaction with colleagues.
Influence of Job Performance
Excluding the lacking of traits of agreeableness, I believe that my job experience would be an exciting and motivating journey. My enthusiastic nature, broad thinking, and confidence would allow me to explore new dimensions during corporate journey and assist me throughout career expansion. Moreover, my personality strengths would increase the feasibility of career diversification when needed. However, the lack of trustworthiness would raise a question in keeping secrets regarding confidential matters of the company but the interaction and environmental adaptability would help me in developing such attributes. I am extremely positive and confident about my corporate journey and career experience believing that my current traits are enough for achieving excellence.
