Play: Set up your blogwrite
This week I am going to set up a blog with one of the free blog hosting companies. I will do research on which free blog hosting company offers best tools that will suit my needs. This is because my blog will be hosted for free. I have been recommended by a classmate that I consider Blogger and Wordpress hence they will be among the sites that I will be considering. My blog will be titled “my information science class portal” I will be setting up a site for my own learning where I will share what I have learnt in class and out of my research in my course. Since this is personal activities that I will be doing during the semester, I will set up several categories to help my readers get the information easily. Articles that I will post will also be categorized according to date of publication. This will enable readers have a quick jump to what they want to read.
Reflect: on your blogwrite a reflection
This blog as already mention is going to be for the activities during my semester. It is going to be a blog for learning where I will post some topics and write reviews of my thoughts. The main aim is to gain more knowledge and develop in my course and subject area. I am going to form a formation where students and those of similar ideas to share information and ideas on my area of study.
Some of the requirements of developing this site is to have a webpage named “About” which should display my information or something about me. I will not share my personal information. I will share general information such as am a student and my course that am pursuing and also my institution. I will share my thoughts and views on different topics. I am not willing to share my phone number and email address.
Currently my blog is in a nice state although I need to improve on few things. I have several articles posted just waiting to hear from my readers especially my colleagues. I have been able to enable moderation of comments posted on the blog. I require users to enter their emails so that I can get back to them anytime for further information if need be. This also enables serious discussion because any comment posted can be followed up.
Features on the blog such as recent blogs and recent comments flashing on all the pages have been added. The features ensure that the blog is interactive. This is because readers can see the activities of the blog just from the sidebar.

Play: it is time to get tweeting! write(140)
Tweeter is one of the leading social media platform that enable people to share information extremely fast. A single message can be received by several people at once. I believe this is the best way of continuing my conversations and discussions about my blog. This week I am going to set up a twitter account especially for my blog in order to have a large following. Since I do not have a Tweeter account, I will add myself on the class tweeter list. I will follow my friends and teaching staff of the institution. With the Tweeter account of the class I will set up a networked group for my blog, I will also be able to follow other discussion blogs which have similar content to mine. Several information centres and libraries are also on Tweeter. I will search and follow at least two of them.

Micro-blogging is where users publish daily activities and thoughts. Twitter.com is an example of micro-blogging which has established a trend in which many organizations communicate. It has become an alternative to traditional communication and given a new way of social networking. A tweet is a short message that users post on tweeter page where followers can see and comment on it. Followers are acquired by request, a tweeter user requests to follow you which mean you can see their activities, and they can also see your activities. Many organizations are opting for micro-blogging as a way of communicating with stakeholders. Employees can interact with each other through micro-blogs. Customer services are now being offered through micro-blog such as twitter. The main purpose of micro-blogging is to update friends, family and colleagues about how someone is faring on, activities and compulsive thoughts.
Organizations and business class have become interested in micro-blogging with most of them adopting Yammer. Yammer is a corporate version of tweeter which enables knowledge exchange and sharing. Employees are expected to improve on their experience and skills through interaction using Yammer. Many enterprises have limited knowledge in micro-blogging, and many are still now sure of the potential it has in their enterprise.
I would like to work in s national library or academic library. Many libraries have adopted micro-blogging as a means of posting updates. Many organizations use tweeter for micro-blogging. However, many national and academic libraries have not adopted Yammer services. Yammer is different from twitter because yammer does not have a limit of 140 characters and it also allows attachment. Yammer is used on a corporate intranet while Twitter used on the internet. I would like the organization that I will work in to use Yammer. This is because it ensures that groups that communicate on internal issues of a company are formed. Yammer is used to post news and events in a given organization.
