Introduction
Planning is one of the most important elements to success in life. A life without plan is a life without a sense of direction. Many people who have been successful in life have been so because of planning on their lives. Life plans are based on the interests of an individual because these interests are what act as a motivation to ones life. Developing a career plan is part of the planning that is required in an individual’s life. This plan is crucial as it enables the individual attain different objectives in life such as having a good home, running successful businesses and buying dream cars amongst other goals. The basic aspect in this case therefore is that a career plan should be formulated to enable one achieve such dreams.
My education plan is structured in such a way that I will have knowledge in all the fields that interest me. Currently I am in school and pursuing a diploma in criminology. This is an interesting course and I enjoy every unit that is associated to it. Criminology is a course that enables one to acquire skills in interrogating criminals and psychology becomes of great importance in this case. One has to understand the behavior of criminals and why some of them engage in crime because people will have different motives when carrying out criminal activities. Criminology is a demanding course for anyone interested in investigating crimes. This is because it also requires one to be very keen and observant because in some cases one will have to collect small pieces of evidence from a crime scene. In criminology, everything and anything around a crime scene can be used and effectively applied as evidence.
After clearing my education in criminology, I will join the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) to pursue education in the field of forensic investigation. Forensic investigation is an education field which is closely linked to criminology. Forensic investigation is a course that was developed to aid investigation in police departments and also in the corporate environment. I would acquire skills in forensic methods and techniques. This entails adverse knowledge in identification of a crime scene and collecting of information that would be relevant in the investigation. The course will also offer skills in forensic interviewing which is relevant in the field of investigation. This is where the aspect of forensic psychology comes into play. During the interviews the investigator should be in a position to foresee the plans of the individual being investigated and also to be able to detect lies.
In the next 3-4 years, I would be through with my education and therefore seek for employment in any law enforcement firm. The field of law enforcement is diverse and it would therefore act as a stepping for my future career plans. Law enforcement is important to me because I like to see to it that the norms and values of the society are followed to the latter. I am also interested in law because of its complexity and many citizens are deprived of their rights due to lack of knowledge of what the law entails. As a law enforcement officer, I would be in a position to assist such people and ensure that the law is fair and just to everyone. This is one of the reasons why I would really love to work in the law enforcement field.
Prior knowledge of how a particular field of interest operates is important. This is the reason why it would be important for me to conduct interviews on people who have been in fields in which I am interested to pursuing a career path. My first interview would be on a police officer. This is because police officers are part of the law enforcement team which is one of my career path interests. I would interview a police officer who has adverse knowledge and work experience in the field of enforcing the law. This would enable me make decisions as far as law enforcement is concerned. The reason for choosing a police officer is because of a past incident in which a police officer saved the life of my friend.
The second interview would be on a person who has knowledge in the accounting field. This is because accounting is also one of my career plan paths in case the one for becoming a law enforcer failed. Accounting interests me because I like dealing with money and also understanding the rationale behind balancing of financial figures in business. I would choose a candidate who has had experience in the field of accounting. Such a person would act as a guide to enhancing the decisions that I make if I land in the field of accounting. This would act as the basis of I pursuing a career in the accounting field.
Becoming a crime scene investigator has always been my passion amongst the three career paths that interest me. The third interviewee would be a crime scene investigator. This interview would enable me understand the elements of becoming a crime scene investigator. This would involve knowledge from the fields of criminology and also forensic investigation. The crime scene investigator would give me the relevant aspects in the specified field. I would be keen in conducting this interview as this is my basic interest. The media has positively influenced my passion of becoming a crime scene investigator and this is through the television channel CSI. Some of the interests of the career are clearly highlighted in the series and this act as a tool of motivation to me. Becoming a crime scene investigator is my long term career objective and this is the reason why this interview would take a considerably longer time compared to the others.
Conclusion
This career plan would enhance achieving my other goals in life. The career plan is however preceded by the education plan because before settling to a specific career knowledge gained through education is crucial. This education plan would include pursuing diploma or degree courses relevant to the careers that interest me in the long run. Diversification in careers is an important element. The reason to this is that if one of the careers failed, one would have an alternative career on which to settle. This is why accounting, law enforcement and crime investigation are the three career path plans. Crime scene investigation is the major career plan with the others being secondary in case the major one failed. Career plans are important because they act as means through which people achieve their objectives in life. It is therefore imperative for anyone to have a career plan preceded by an education plan.
