They were not religious using their arrogance to enforce their dominion through whip and gun leading to underclass uprising e.g. the Bacon’s rebellion. This rebellion almost destroyed their colonization forcing them to turn to African slaves labor force in 1676.The rugged lands cape in New England made it impossible for crop production leading to banking, business and shipping activities. Rocky land provided timber for building ships and some exported back to England .Ship building became staple as British resorted to American build strong and cheap ships. Business grew steadily artisans, blacksmiths, carpenters and shopkeepers had shops in villages by 1750.
