Computer Programs are backbone of today’s technology. All the hardware, big machines or equipments runs on such programs. In this paper we will compare two of the most basic computer programs, the operating systems, based on which other applications run.
Compare and Contrast two computer programs
Computer Program or software is the set of codes that carry out specific task. These codes are written in computer language or programming language. The level of language depends upon level of task required. There are various languages available but mostly today the high level languages commonly used are BASIC or C
etc. With the use of this language, programmers design computer programs or software. In this essay we will talk about most widely used computer programs like Windows and Linux. They are known as operating systems which are used as a platform to run other software.
Linux allows full access in it to the user, whereas windows don’t. Using this user can access the software very deep to the fundamental area. Same is not possible with windows. Another major difference here is that of licensing, where an accomplished programmer can change the fundamentals of this software which is not possible with windows. Not all hardware support Linux or vice-versa, so in order to install Linux and make it work perfectly you may have to hand pick the hardware, this is the main reason behind failure of Linux, on the other hand, windows can run on any hardware and is very easy to operate.
Linux has great facility with centralized application installation system, also can be called as package management systems. Here from the central location any application can be searched or even installed into the system. Same is not the case with windows where one has to search and download the application from internet or external drive and then installation process begins.
Conclusion
Windows is a hugely commercial program. Almost 90% of the PCs in the world run on windows, but still it is not the most perfect one. Software like Linux have many advantages those windows can adopt on its way to be the perfect one.
