Corruption here can mean any abuse of a position of trust in order to gain an undue benefit. This involves the behavior of both sides, that is to say the abuser of position of trust and the personality who seeks to gain an undue gain by this abuse. Corruption may be exhibited by the staff of an organization or between them and an external party. It is particularly common in certain kinds of contact for instance, when giving public contracts, in certain economic sectors, and in some states. Corruption may be in form of small favors and bribes in expectation of a future benefit to the expense of large sums of money to superior members of governments (SECO).
Police force corruption for instance the traffic police is a major concern in the transport industry in the recent times. It is said to be in the rising and therefore calls for measures to curb it so as to be efficient in the transport industry and in the police force itself calls for measures to improve the situation on things. This proposal therefore looks into the ways and means of getting the police to shape and work
Adoption of an independent body to investigate the police is a crucial step. This can be done partially by figuring out ways to overwhelm systemic joins. An example of an instance in which corruption in police forces was done is Hong Kong. The police used to take part in drug trafficking, unlawful gambling, and prostitution. As a result of these events, the government initiated a self-regulating investigation on corruption that revealed the rottenness of public offices (Dempsey).
Creation of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is a sure step. This institution is granted significant autonomy and sweeping power. The agency reports to none other than the governor or president. Moreover, it has the ability to arrest people alleged of corruption and, under outstanding circumstances, the power to run a search and arrest without must of a warrant. To defend the commission’s honesty, ICAC officials should be paid highly competitive salaries.
Restraining the number of face-to-face relations between drivers and transit police, can be of importance like in Mexico but also by lowering the contract costs linked with paying a ticket. the government should set up a number of speed radars that can without human intervention ticket drivers going over the officially permitted limit and it should equip trained transit police with handheld procedure that allow drivers to pay their traffic ticket on the dot using a credit card means.
Modifying of the incentive structures of the officers is one tactic to consider in this fight. As stated earlier in this proposal, the ICAC personalities are remunerated handsomely they do their job correctly, but face steep costs if they are trapped chipping in in corruption. This can be achieved by the frying of big fish that is, by prosecuting officials found corrupt regardless of their reputation as being or position in the society according to (ACRN).
It is also essential to grant the officials heading corruption investigations with the enough resources and the leeway they need to run successful probes and investigations. For instance by interviewing innumerable business people and criminals, conducting scrutiny, congregation intelligence from paid informants, and sending agents to run in secret operations freely. Also
Support and assistance from the local community is required here for consistency. Educating the public on the negative effects of Corruption on their police agency can also serve a purpose. They should be taught that even the most basic and ordinary form of police corruption, is only a catalyst for more and potential corruption. Formation and establishing community review boards and investigative bodies to assist in keeping a careful eye on the agency.
The strategy of engaging and educating the residents on the topic of corruption is a solution. This is essential if the hope is to produce a climate that oppose and expose graft. The act of acquiring excess power by the officials in the forces should be highly checked by the set rules and governing constitution.
The problem can also be combated by monitoring and Control of the police and the suitable use of police approach to put into effect laws and to offer service to the community. The police should have an agency other than the independent body watching over them for It doesn't harm to have somebody look over their shoulder for an independent body force be less effective at getting assistance from cops horizontal to secure ranks against outsiders for one needs to have the confidence of officers and in order about what's going on within (KutnjakIvkovic).
Like mentioned earlier in this proposal, the dilemma of police deviance and corruption will by no means be fully solved, just like the police will never be able to solve the crime problem in our societies completely. One step in the right direction is the efficient monitoring and control of the police by observing integrity and the appropriate use of police style to make obligatory laws and to provide service to the given community.
In conclusion, the government and community should act to try and control corruption and check on its costs of either running the agencies or costs that come with the acts of corruption for they can be enormous, and since it affects not only the individual, his unit, the law enforcement district as a whole, but society as well thus all the shareholders in general. Therefore, Police corruption can be prohibited; it just takes a modest extra attempt. And in the long run, the attempt will be of good value to both the society and all the stakeholders.
