Essay On Creation

1) Brief Summary
The passage talks of the world’s beginning. It brings into light the creation of the earth, the heavens and all that is in it. God is the author of it all, and he creates everything through word of mouth. The man is an addition to the Lord’s creation and comes second after God when it comes to authority. God names the man Adam and gives him the authority over everything. Despite all the freedom he has, God notices that Adam is sad, and he puts him into a deep sleep. While sleeping, God takes a rib off Adam and creates a woman called Eve. She becomes a partner and helper towards Adam. However, there are rules set in place by God towards what Adam and Eve can and cannot do. One of the things man cannot do is eat the forbidden fruit that grew in the middle of Garden of Eden.
2) Representation of human beings, God, and their Relationship
The passage shows different levels of authority and ownership present in human beings and God. God is the Supreme Being and has authority over everything. The first chapter of Genesis shows how God created day, night, heavens, earth, animals, man and all that is in the world (Genesis 1:3-9 King James Version). He seems to have a strong, commanding voice since he creates almost everything by speaking of it. The statement is true from all the creation verses where he commands something, and it comes to be like light, heavens, and animals. However, on the sixth day, God saw that what he created was good, but it lacked someone to look over it (Genesis 1:27 King James Version). Hence, he created man by using mud and made him in his image. These verses show the close relationship between man and God. Hence, the man became his most precious creation and one that has authority over everything. However, the relationship has its rules such as the forbidden tree that Adam was not to eat from.
3) Ethics and Practice
Ethics and practice entail the rules and regulations people set for themselves or each other for the purpose of creating a good relationship. Man’s authority over the things on earth was a task given by God. The first task was to name all items on earth then to multiply and fill the earth (Genesis 1:29-31 King James Version). These are the ethics and practices bestowed on man by God.
4) Etiological questions
The passage defines the etiology of man and the sole purpose of being on the earth. God created man as a need of him; an assistant to his creation and to watch over everything. In the passage, God gives Adam authority over the animals and tells him to name all the creations (Genesis 1:29 King James Version). The passage shows the creation of man as an image of God. Unlike the other creations where God spoke to them, man came to be as a creation. Hence, the relationship between man and God became superior due to the similarity and closeness. The sole purpose of being on earth is to multiply and fill the earth, cultivate it and watch over it.
5) Power/Powerlessness
The passage shows God as the power being. All through the creation, God speaks a word, or two and all that he says comes to be (Genesis 1:2-15 King James Version). God shows his authority on man by providing him guidelines on things he can and cannot do while in the Garden of Eden. God makes man as the second in authority despite creating him last. The animals lack power over anything on earth though God tells them to multiply the earth. The author’s perspective is to show the relation and command levels in all the creation and Supreme Being.
6) An Explanation of Evil
In the passage, God gives the man permission to eat all the trees in the garden except for the one at the middle of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:20 King James Version). God marks it as the tree of knowledge, which distinguishes between good and evil. God commands man not to eat from it and the day he does, he will die.
