Professional Ideology
Professional Ideology; From Nothing Works to What Works
The central thesis of this article looks towards the academic study of corrections alongside the discipline known as Criminology, in order to arbitrate as to whether such concepts have committed a construction of knowledge, or deconstruction of knowledge within the field throughout the past quarter of a century or so; ultimately through method of scientific study. The study hypothesis of the article specifically stated that aside from the main question as to what does and does not work in the field, scholars have indeed been “raised” to show what does not work as opposed to what does work within the field of academic criminology (Cullen, F. T., & Gendreau, P., 2011). More so, hypotheses revealed that by discerning specifically what does work in the field as opposed to simply working amongst the negative traces in study, we discover supplementary sociologic, psychiatric, and psychologic, activities in these concepts which provides the highest promise of positive results (Cullen, F. T., & Gendreau, P., 2011).
It can be said that through proper method towards the above stated hypotheses, “science is a way of knowing the world and changing it for the better” (Cullen, F. T., & Gendreau, P., 2011). The professional concept of ideology encompasses six main core beliefs or principles. These ideas tell us how to positively approach correctional issues and thereby receive much more accurate and abundant results. It is said that scientific criminology “will result in more “good” in the world than a criminology that ignores what really works” (Cullen, F. T., & Gendreau, P., 2011). Furthermore the article suggests that the main implication of correctional policy within the ideology is to greatly emphasize and to promote science, as a critical supplement to evidence based crime, and the fight against it. Thus this way is furthermore a very rational and advanced assumption towards the constitution of rational formulated policy and practices within crime and criminology itself, plus more (Cullen, F. T., & Gendreau, P., 2011).
